Love…is obviously found in China

Another happy couple update.

Yang Yun, former Chinese gymnast and currently under International Olympic Committee invesitgation for being underage wayyyy back in 2000 in Sydney has updated her blog with pics of her and her fiance, All-Around gold-medalist Yang Wei, busy preparing for their wedding in San Ya, a beach place in China that I had not previously heard of but am now definitely putting it on my list of places to visit. The IOC better watch out. Yang Wei is not going to like anyone messing with his future wife, although here they simply look like they don’t care.

Another Wedding!

Nie Yuan thinking what is going on with all the weddings?

What? Another marriage? I just posted about a celeb wedding and the new Three Kingdoms series. Put them together and what do you get? A recipe for another wedding and me a little spooked at how quickly all the good actors are getting taken.

Nie Yuan, who plays Zhao Yun in the new Three Kingdoms has just gotten hitched today to his girlfriend/fiancee of two years, Yang Guang, also an actress. So far there are no official wedding pics, just candids. I will certainly post them when I get the goods.

Also in attendance to congratulate the happy couple was fellow 3K cast member and cutie Lu Yi , Mr. Zhu Geliang himself, also a married man. They don’t stay single for long in China ladies, those actors. Get them while you can. Meanwhile, I’m going to add a tag for weddings. If this keep up, I may have to make it into a entire category.

First Look at the Newest Adaptation of Three Kingdoms

Yesterday, the actors in costume were revealed for their respective roles. The cast list boasts impressive names, that is if you like young hotties. While nobody is quite a teeny-bopper idol (most being in their early thirties), the list still certainly screams “idol series”. Poor sage and master strategist Zhuge liang has been getting younger and younger, having first been played by Takeshi Kaneshiro in the movie Red Cliff and now by baby-faced Lu Yi who’s yet to crack a smile in any of the press photos. Why so glum Lu Yi? This actually marks an improvement from the most recent roles you’ve done.

This marks the second series in production of one of China’s Four Great Novels, the other being Dream of the Red Chamber, who’s reception has been more of a mixed bag, mixed referring to the mix of insults towards not only the horrific outfits but also the young, unknown and unexperienced cast.

From L to R, Lu Yi as Zhu Geliang, Victor Huang as Zhou Yu, Nie Yuan as Zhao Yun, Chen Hao as Diao Chan and Peter Ho with a ‘stache and glare juxtaposed to give quite a ridiculous/endearing look. Take Your pick. Ruby Lin although not pictured, is playing Sun Shangxiang.

Painted Skin Opens in China This Weekend

The newest big-name movie, featuring a cast of mainland A-listers including hottie Chen Kun, Zhao Wei, Zhou Xun, and Sun Li as well as Hong Kong favorite, Donnie Yen. The movie is one of many adaptations of “The Strange Tales of Liao Zhai” which features many supernatural stories, but is probably the highest budgeted one to-date. This, along with last week’s thriller, The Deserted Inn, marks two supernatural thrillers in a row for China, which may be unprecedented.

This film is also the first time former classmates, Chen Kun and Zhao Wei have acted together as an on-screen couple, hyped by some of the first movie stills released from the film. Vicky Zhao Wei has already been heavily praised for her acting in this film, giving an emotionally charged performance that just may be one of her best and a large step away from the tomboyish ‘Swallow” character that brought her international fame in Huang Zhu Ge Ge.

Chinese Films on CNN's Best Asian Films of All Time List

6 Chinese-language films were picked on CNN’s shortlist for best Asian films, which had 18 films spanning across Asia and inexplicably across Asia to New Zealand and Iran. For Zhang Yimou they picked a representative in Hou Zhe, which is my favorite Asian film of all time, and one of my top 3 films of all time. It annoys me however, to think that they picked it for political reasons (see anti-cnn.com, and Jack Cafferty), since in their description they say it’s banned in China. Well, they are about a decade too late, since it has long since been unbanned in the mainland, even before Mr. Zhang began his major pimpage of Chinese culture starting with “Hero” and mostly recently, the operning ceremony of the Olympics.

Another mainland Chinese film picked, Shower, also has a connection to the Olympics, the Paralympics that is. Shower’s lead, veteran actor Pu Cunxi, has been a long-time humanitarian in China, and advocate for the disabled and has been a volunteer in the 2008 Paralympics. A list of the other Chinese films picked, and their biased CNN summaries is behind the cut.

Wedding Bells are in the Air!

Pan Yueming and Dong Jie are getting married!

The eternally cute actress Dong Jie, who most recently played the female half of the famous Lian Zhu couple in the series Butterfly Lovers has been announced as planning on marrying actor Pan Yueming, who’s also made a name for himself through series such as Moment in Peking. This is surprising since nobody knew they were even in a relationship.

Not that anyway is listening to me, but I thoroughly approve of Dong Jie’s choice. Pan Yueming is not only cute, but has a rich deep voice that will carry him through their golden years when their movie star looks begin to fade.

First Look at China's Own Ugly Betty

September 21, 2008 | Posted in Mainland China,Television, Tagged ,
