Popularity by the numbers

What’s the most fair way to count popularity?
Baidu, mainland’s biggest search engine, thinks it’s by search results.
On the 20th, Baidu held its 3rd annual Hunan TV-Baidu Search Awards at the Water Cube.
CFensi brings you some of the best performances and speeches from the H3O.

Vicki Zhao Wei – Most popular actress; upon viewing a video summary of her ten years as an actress:

My greatest reward is that I found the meaning to my life. I think living in this world, everyone has a purpose in their lives, be it the the feeling of parents to their child or a doctor to his patients. In these ten years, I found the value in my life. Although my purpose is not as amazing as that of a scientist, but I think my life was a worthwhile one.

Chen Kun – most popular male actor

Actually, I’m late to mature. I always thought that I should act in roles that I want to, like in Mei Lan Fang, but unfortuantely I missed it. I realized that in life, there are other roles we must act as. Thank you to everyone who has supported me to this day. Whether you’re a fan of my acting, singing, or you’re just someone who silently supports me, I hope you’ll continue to support me. I’ll do my best for you guys, because I learned to enjoy my profession now.

Vicki Zhao and Chen Kun’s acceptance speech, review of the past ten years, and meeting with four-generations of Vicki fans:

Metallic Attraction: Kungfu Cyborg finishes filming

1000 million yuan Sci-fi movie Kungfu Cyberg finished filming yesterday with director Jeff Lau and leads Hu Jun, Sun Li, Ronald Cheng Wu Jing, Alex Fong, etc.

Despite having filmed numerous comedies like “A Chinese Odyseey,” Jeff Lau says he still hasn’t lost the comedic touch. He says “Kungfu Cyborg isn’t an imitation, so first, it’s not like “Transformers.” Second, it’s not like any type of superman. It’s a cyborg with uniquely Eastern traits.  Kungfu Cyborg is a trial with lots of special effects. If we don’t make more advances in special effects, we’ll be even further behind Hollywood.”

“Kungfu Cyborg” will air in the summer.

"Cicada" Kefeng demonstrating the "piggie" sleep in cow PJ's

The much anticipated episode of new boyband A-One on Happy Camp is finally out. Thanks to poster a-one for reminding me.

A-One managed to pull off the whole insect theme without making it seem strange at all. They’re so far the most goofy group of them all, but nevertheless talented, good-looking and good friends. The highlight was definitely Kefeng in his cow-pajamas dancing Michael Jackson.

Who needs girls in a duet?

Elle : Earlier, you guys both said you liked sweet cute girls. Would you ever fight over the same girl?
Jing (steals mic): Jiejie*older sis*, let me tell you, that will never happen! Once, we were singing Male KTV, and Baozi *little meat bun aka Fu Xinbo* saw that the MTV was about two xiongdi*brothers aka bff’s* fighting over a girl, and was he mad! He was angry about it the whole night. It cracked me up….if he can’t even accept a MV like that but was very serious and very mad about it, how could that ever happen in real life?

Elle China’s special “double” edition included an article on the two perfect duos of Huayi- Yu Quan and BOBO. Forgive me for not putting up Yu Quan’s interview, who’s far ahead of BOBO in terms of singing and composing, but they have no fangirls to scan their stories. Expect more BOBO friendship cuteness in the Baidu awards post coming soon.

Meteor Shower is a co-production between Hunan TV, EE Media and Beijing Chunqiu. The drama plans to be aired this summer. It will be directed by Taiwanese director of  “The Outsiders” and the script took the team of Wang Hanlin over a year to finish.  EE Media CEO Long Danni stated that “Meteor Garden” is a combination of the best production team from both sides of the strait.

The director of the drama, He Hanchen, is that of the popular Taiwanese series “The Outsiders.” He said that when choosing the actors, he was not forced to pick the Super Boys. Instead, he said that he picked them for their smiles among a group of candidates. When asked about the complaints of the drama before it even began, he replied, ” I don’t care. I only care that this drama will make people cry and laugh. If it can do that, it’s a good drama.”

How can anyone not love pandas? With the earthquake in Sichuan last year and the sending of two pandas to Taiwan, pandas again rose to the spotlight. A salut to all the panda tributes, including those from  Jay Chou, Disney, Yang Lei and Huang Xiaoming, coming out recently.

Jay Chou held the press conference for a drama series tentatively named “Panda Men” on the 16th. Jay says that he “loves watching Super Hero movies, but Chinese people don’t have a modern day hero. All Chinese heroes are from the ancient times, so I want to do something that no one else has yet done.” Jay says he came up with the idea long before Kungfu Panda, but never had the time to do it.

Valentine's Day, FUTURE edition

Vicki Zhao and Chen Kun celebrates Valentine's Day together as the leads of movie Mulan, which will also feature Vitas

Valentine’s Day seems to be a popular time for releasing new songs, here are some our favorite songs that are previews for future albums by Tan Weiwei, Kimi Qiao Renliang and Kym Jin Sha.

I forgot to say – Tan Weiwei

2nd place of Super Girls 2006 Tan Weiwei recently signed on the the recording company of Huayou, a seed company of the Hurray! group that also owns mainland Huayi and Taiwanese Seed. She released her new single and her album is due in March. “I forgot to say” is probably my favorite pop song from her so far. It manages to show off her vocals very naturally. Tan Weiwei began as a folk singer of mainly Tibetan-styled ethnic songs, which I adore. She achieved relative success and had released an album, several singles and had starred in a musical before competing in Super Girls in 2006. She also performed Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau in Vienna’s Golden Hall, which is a great feat for anyone.
