we were wrong how?
to deserve such punishments?Who can help me?
help us?
Over the past five months, Southwestern China, including Yunnan, Sichuan, Guizhou, Chongqing, Guangxi and parts of Hunan and Gansu, experienced its worst drought in a century, following another drought in North and Northeastern China last year that led to a 50% crop loss.
In large areas of Guizhou, the drought has been continuous since eight months ago.
The recent drought has left 18 million residents and 11.7 million head of livestock in the region with drinking water shortages and caused direct economic losses of 23.7 billion yuan.

And the worst part is, it’s still going on, with uncertain hope for rain in the next month. Kunming received its first rain in five months yesterday, but that was only due to cloud seeding. If no clouds pass over the region soon, the area might be completely out of water. And just as sad is the fact that so few people knew about this so late.
What can you do?
You can donate to the Chinese red cross here so that the people can have clean water to drink.
You can also start by remembering how lucky we are to have warm showers and clean water everyday, and to not waste a drop of them or anything else you have. Showering for a minute less can save enough water for someone to survive another day. Love the earth and protect your home.

I have no idea this is happening. Thanks for the information.
that water doesnot look drinkable…
Ack, how did I not hear about this? =x That song made we really sad. It was well written. My thoughts go out to people suffering from drought there. I hope the situation gets better soon. =/
I have the same question…this situation wasn’t known until recently to not only the international community, but also the domestic one.
But I think droughts in general do not get as much attention since it’s a gradual process rather than a sudden shock. It is not until months later that one can truly comprehend its problem, whereas things like earthquakes have immediate affects and magnitudes.
Thanks for informing us about this. There’s one image of Wen Jiabao standing on the deeply cracked earth which stood. Also, that water looks dangerously dirty.

I read somewhere that there was some negligence on the part of municipal and provincial governments so the federal government hasn’t seemed to know about it. But eight months with no rain in a place should at least warrant some attention after 3 months. It’s not like Southeast China doesn’t regularly receive plentiful rainfall. Weren’t people at least suspicious why here was no rain? It just seems to have taken longer than necessary to get the information out.
My dad just donated, I feel so horrible about taking long showers. Even tho I rarely pray, I’ll pray for them tonight. I hope the conditions get better soon.
this has been going on for a really really long time. i cant believe no one here seems to know about this, since this has been a topic on chinese news since MONTHS ago.
there are a lot of relief efforts happening right now; just a few days ago they sent couple billion gallons of clean, bottled water into guizhou, the most vulnerable place that will be sufficient for everyone in that place for about a month or so

Terrible, just terrible news.
Here in Mass, we’re having a water shortage as well, due to a failure of one of our aqueducts. Though we have water, we don’t have safe drinking or washing water. People drive to S&S in DROVES to buy pure spring water, all because they refuse to boil their water to kill contaminants. It’s not even like our water is undrinkable. It just needs to be purified first by power of heat.
Imagine our sufferings in comparison with theirs’. There is just no comparison. Really puts our situation in perspective, doesn’t it?
