This year, Hunan/Golden Eagle Broadcasting Systems (GBS) will be broadening its talent show series by not only having both a female (Blossoming Flowers) and a male (Super Boys) competition (not to mention a directing competition) on satellite at the same time, but also by having overseas audition regions for the first time.

Super Boys’ overseas auditions spots will be in Australia (Sydney, Melbourne Adelaide, Brisbane) , North America (Toronto, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Houston, Chicago and New York) and Malaysia (to be determined). Auditions will be held until the 25th, and you can sign up at either 2010superboy@gmail.com for American auditions or superboy@partyworldktv.com.au for Australian ones.

Perhaps no other event changes recent mainland music and TV as much as the rise of the show “Super Girls,” a “Chinese Idol” show by Hunan TV, in 2005. The show, which produced stars like Li Yuchun and Jane Zhang and completely took over half of the mainland music and idol landscape, continued to manifest itself in its variations – Super Girls in 2006, Super (Happy) Boys in 2007, and Super (Happy) Girls in 2009. It also led to the rise of other similar shows, including Dragon TV’s My Show, My Hero and Jiayou! Dragon Angels talent shows and Jiangsu TV’s “Singing Loudly.” This year, as Jiangsu TV finally give up its “Singing Loudly,” GBS moves forward with two versions of the show – Blossoming Flowers by its subsidiaries Qinghai Satellite TV and Hunan eTV, and Super Boys for Hunan Satellite TV.

Blossoming Flowers will be cohosted by landbased channel Hunan eTV and satellite channel Qinghai TV. Landbased channels can only be viewed by TV’s within that province, and eTV is probably one of the most famous landbased channels, known for its creativity and boldness in projects such as Huan Zhu Ge Ge. Blossoming Flowers, which seeks all talented girls over the age of 18, is one of the first projects by Qinghai TV after it was brought by GBS. It has the traditional eTV flair for fun, and borrows Hunan TV’s talent show stars Tan Weiwei, Zeng Yike and Jiang Yingrong as its spokespeople.

Meanwhile, Hunan TV’s Super Boys looks outward for more talents like 2007 2nd place Su Xing and 2009 2nd place Li Xiaoyun, two singers who studied overseas in Australia. In addition to looking for singers, this move is also a bid for more talents and perhaps recognization for GBS’ new international channel – Hunan World. The other new draw of Super Boys is a side competition where a group of boys will be chosen pre-nationals to train for a boyband. Unlike the previous Super Boys boyband, Top Combine, this will begin training during the competition and then battle it out with the final six of nationals.

interesting boyband idea. i think it’s a good way to gain publicity before they start and not have to go on a long hiatus like top combine before being ready to actually perform.

why isn’t there one in seattle?? there’s a huuuge chinese population in seattle. i feel offended. even though im not a boy. >_>

  2. linny says:

I think Seattle is just too car for them. Iwant hem to come to the US but it seems like they r only targetting places that are relatively close to China.
This seems like a good show, I’ll b on the lookout for it.

  3. ANN says:

OMG!!! They’re coming to San Francisco. I should get my brother to audition lol.

  4. Izuu says:

~Blossoming Flowers~ and Super Boys… *facepalm* Even though we shouldn’t expect anything less, my inner-feminist will now take this opportunity to get up on her high horse, thank you very much -__-”

  5. cmi says:

Um, Izuu – that’s just the name we use in English fandom

The original Chinese titles were originally

2004 – Super Girls (Chao Nv)
2005 – Super Girls (Chao Nv)
2006 – Super Girls (Chao Nv)
2007 – Happy Boys (Kuai Le Nan Sheng) *
2009 – Happy Girls (Kuai Le Nv Sheng)
    2010 – Happy Boys & Blossoming Flowers

We simply kept using the Super for boys because it was easier, but since Blossoming Flowers of 2010 is not really a continuation of the older series, we can’t use Super Boys in English fandom.

This show should more than placate your inner feminist.

  6. cMi says:

And just wondering…if you didn’t know this show started with the title Supergirls, who are you and how did you find this website?

This site is all about Supergirls.

  7. Kylie Batt says:

    Я подумал и удалил свою мысль…

    Super Boys’ overseas auditions […….

  8. felichan says:

idk how seattle isn’t close to china. other than alaska its the closest you can get to china in all of the U.S….

  9. “2010superboy@gmail.com”? Why are they using gmail? Is that smart? Isn’t google going to be kicked out of china soon for not complying with their strict censoring laws? Or does it not matter because the auditions are conducted outside of china… but the man of operations is still in china… hmmm, I wonder if they went with google bcuz TTXS had a Google ep., bcuz they could have easily have gone with yahoo or even msn. I mean the Google incident DID happen recently.

  10. idarklight says:

    @clowninpaths
I believe the overseas auditions are hosted by Hunan TV’s partners in those regions, and not Hunan TV itself, so google wouldn’t be blocked there… However, Hunan TV World has been using gmail since it is the more “international” way of communication.

Google is already out of mainland. They moved their hosting to Hong Kong a few weeks ago, but is still accessible from mainland.

TTXS also had a microsoft episode…and in Seattle, too. So there’s no reason to not use msn. But imo, gmail is just better.

I have no idea how the regions were chosen. Perhaps the partner/hosting place also had a say in it?

  11. chengyv says:

So it’s only Super Boys that will be having Auditions overseas?
    Blossom Flowers isn’t going international?

  12. Linny says:

After they audition internaltionally will they all be going to China for the actually competition? WIll Blossom FLowers be like Super girl? or is it like a whole different concept kinda.?
    I can’t wait. xD
