A fantasy novel in a serious literary magazine: Guo Jingming in Harvest
Guo Jingming (郭敬明), the magazine editor and writer of phenomenally-popular YA fiction, has a novel coming out in the summer supplement to Harvest (收获), one of China’s most respected literary magazines.
In Harvest’s case, readers who see the magazine as a bastion of serious literature have accused it of betraying its standards to take advantage of Guo’s popularity. Making matters worse is the subject matter of Guo’s new book: Mark of the Cavalier (爵迹) is the first volume of a new epic fantasy series. Is Harvest repositioning itself to compete with the pulps?

CNN talk Asia interview actor Daniel Wu here and Huayi CEO Wang Zhongjun in their luxurious family home here. He discusses the founding of his company, how the company succeeds and its goals. He speaks of the increasing professionalism of the company and its strength to withhold failures as well as the changes in the Chinese movie scene.
“Everybody followed what was considered to be a successful model like Kung Fu films. In recent years though, Chinese films have begun to prosper. Our company started making films that haven’t been made before, like war films, spy films, comedies and disasters,” Wang Zhongjun said.

After writer/racecar driver Han Han made it into the Times 100 most influential people, interest in him rose a lot in the English media. CCNGo interview him here, where he didn’t really answer any of the questions. More interestingly, I found out that China Digital Times translates his blog posts into English, so you can read translated Han Han blog posts Let the Sunshine In, the Bloom of Youth, Those Onions Which Never Get Clean and To Welcome You With Wine And Endless Talk. Despite the highly political nature of Han Han’s blogs, please refrain from turning cfensi into a place of political debate like I almost did.
