Super Girls 2009 champion Jiang Yingrong calling out for new shimei's.

After overtaking all of its competitors in the past few years, Super Girls comes back this year as the only talent competition of its kind. This year, the directing returns to eeMedia’s  VP Ma Han, who directed the 2007 and 2009 Super Boys/Girls, so no more messes like last year!

One key feature this year will be a “Girls’ Conservatory” to give a reality TV twist to the competition show.  Similar to the “Super Boys Castle” in 2007, the “Girls’ Conservatory” will allow the audience to watch even closer as the girls transform and grow into superstars. The girls will be aided by seasoned musicians like Yu.Quan, Fang Wenshan an Gong Linna.

Like in 2009, Elle magazine will work with the girls in photoshoots. New social media will also be used intensively in both promotions and selections of the artists, with sina/sohu/QQ weibo (twitter) playing a major role in the competition through ranking fandom and interacting with the artists.

Auditions begins today (April 1st) in Changsha, and will soon be followed by main regions in Shenyang, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Hangzhou and Xi’an.

Yang Mi

Yang Mi at the Palace film version's press conference

Known for her dedication and intrepidity, actress Yang Mi lived up to her name again while filming for Beijing Love Story earlier this year. In order to be on schedule, the production team got a truck to break the 20cm – thick ice on a river so that Yang Mi could go in to film. At the time of filming, her legs were wrapped in several layers of plastics. Despite standing in freezing water, Yang Mi successfully acted out her role in one take.
Other than her dedication, Yang Mi’s also known for being a workaholic. In addition to the recently finished Beijing Love Story, there are one film and six upcoming dramas by her – Beauties’ World/ 美人天下 with Palace director Yu Zheng, 虎符传奇 with Palace costar Feng Shaofeng,  a remake of 京城四少, family drama 我们同是一家人,  another ancient series 洪武大案 and a guest star in Painted Skin drama.  She has also begun work on two films and a new modern drama with Feng Shaofeng.

Love of Life and Death Trilogy to air on Jiangsu TV

Three famed love epics tales return to TV in the new Hai Yan trilogy

Based on three of the most beloved tales by modern love epic pioneer Hai Yan, “Love of Life and Death -  a Hai Yan trilogy” will soon air on Jiangsu TV, featuring a young yet experienced cast. The trilogy includes re-adaptations of  “How can I save you, my love 拿什么拯救你,我的爱人,” “Jade Goddess 玉观音,” and “Never rest in peace 永不瞑目.”

The three tales, all involving love stories intertwined with law and criminal, have previously made popular artists like Sun Li, Peter Ho, Liu Ye, etc. while they do the same for the new actors? While Jade Goddess is the most wellwritten of the stories and has previously been portrayed by Sun Li/Peter Ho and Vicki Zhao Wei/Nicholas Tse, I’m personally looking toward 拿什么拯救你,我的爱人 the most because of its all-star cast of talented, good-looking but not yet famous actors/actresses. Watch its extended trailer here.
