Hu Ge, Jin Sha, Wang Keli star in Shangri-la drama

How many guns does it take to shot Hu Ge? In Shangri-la, actor Hu Ge gets tough and becomes first a thief and then a soldier.

Following the surprising rise of the Hu Ge- Jin Sha couple from the Myth, Hu Ge and Jin Sha pair up again in another tale of unrequited love. This time, the two meets again in the Yunnan district of Shangri-la, and the main female lead shifts from Bai Bing to Wang Keli. Also joining them is local Yunnan singer-actor Zhaxi Dunzhu.

In Shangri-la, Hu Ge breaks through his usual playful boy leads to take on a more masculine and serious character. Although Shangri-la appears serenely beautiful, even it  cannot escape from the turbulent wars outside. Although it begins as a tale of love and family, Shangri-la takes the viewers on a journey that moves beyond the paradise of Shangri-la to face the realities of life.The drama begins to air on CCTV on May 6th.

Celebrity dance show continues to twirl in its 3rd season

Actress Tong Liya and singer Li Wei will pair up this week for a dance

Celebrity dance competition Strictly Come Dancing (舞动奇迹) returns to Hunan TV after three years. This year, Hunan TV has opted for a more up and coming star cast rather than a mix of Hunan and TVB artist. The variety including acting talents like Palace’s Tong Liya and Fall in Love’s Jiang Kaitong, singers like singer-composer Allen Su Xing and iMe’s Liu Meihan; Hunan TV hosts Sun Xiaoxiao and Wu Yang, as well as model/Bu Bu Jing Xin actress Liu Yuxin. A few professionals, like the one-legged Cui Xiaowei and acrobatic Bai Luchen are also in the cast.

The first episode featured fun dances like Super Mario  as well as beautiful ones like Madame Lady Snake and The King’s Speech. In the first three episodes, four males will be eliminated. The male-females will then be paired up to compete together in future rounds. For the first episode, groups of three were picked by the show. At the end of each episode, the males and females try to pair up, with the male taking the initiative. Episodes broadcast on Sunday nights on Hunan TV.

Zheng Shuang relishes her few moments of modern wear in the midst of one film and three dramas set in historical times.

After having just finished her first period drama in the Secret History of Wu Zetian (武则天秘史), actress Zheng Shuang will remain in the Tang dynasty in upcoming drama Phoenix Totem (凰图腾) with Meteor Shower costar Zhang Han and The Myth’s Bai Bing. She still found the time, however, for an advertising photoshoot as the new spokesperson (following Zhao Wei and Twins) for clothing brand In.Color.

Ady An Yixuan and Feng Shaofeng’s “Emperor’s Harem” releases trailer

Will the third time be the charm for Feng Shaofeng and Ady An's new drama?

Traveling back from Palace/Gong’s Qing dynasty, Feng Shaofeng turns into a Tang musician who seeks to play his love’s duet with old friend Ady An Yixuan. The Emperor’s Harem tells of the palace intrigues of the Tang harem, starring the optimistic and talented Pipa player Ady An, the handsome musician Feng Shaofeng, the elegant dancer Lv Yi, as well as an assortment of beauties of all ages from the Harem.

The Emperor’s Harem (后宫, not to be mixed with Sun Li’s Qing dynasty drama 后宫甄嬛传) is the the third drama starring the two Huayi stars, the other ones being Qing dramas Suo Qing Qiu 锁清秋 and Yun Niang 芸娘. Ady An said that she had received the script first, and immediately thought of Feng Shaofeng when they were seeking a male lead because the two are already so familiar.  They say the third time is the charm, so

Deng Chao and Sun Li officially married, to host wedding this year

On screen and off screen, Sun Li and Deng Chao help each other trust in love.

Actor Deng Chao revealed to the press that he and actress Sun Li had received their marriage certificate on his birthday in February last year, and hopes to have a wedding late this year. The two had previously filmed two series together – Happiness is like a flower 幸福像花儿一样 and Sweet 甜蜜蜜, and stars in the upcoming film Painted Mural 画壁 (a sequel to Painted Skin).

Sun Li said that because of her parents’ divorce, she had never believed in love before meeting Deng Chao. Deng Chao once dedicated a best actor award to Sun Li, saying that “It’s your love and support that allowed me to continue to bravely work in this field. I love you.”

Other than their good looks and innate charm, Deng Chao and Sun Li are two of the kindest artists around. Sun Li is already known for her helping stray pets, and Deng Chao has participated in numerous nonprofit works. Sun Li recalls that once, before they were dating, a driver in their production was hurt and the team decided to donate money to help pay for his hospital fees. Sun Li asked him how much he was going to donate. Deng Chao told her to wait, opened up his suitcase, took out all the money, kept a small bill for the cab back, and donated everything else.

Top Combine’s Ma Xueyang composed new song, Whispers in your ears

Boyband Top Combine just released their last song of their upcoming EP Lucky Boys.  Penned by TC’s Ma Xueyang, new song “Whispers in your ears  咬耳朵” is playful and fun as usual. Jing Boran donates to build a school, named honorary principal

Singer, actor, and now honorary principal of the Fu Xin Bo Ran elementary school - Jing Boran.

As Jing Boran shows off his handsomeness in his new photobook shot in Italy, he will also do a good cause by donating the proceeds of his photobook to build a Hope School in Fuxin. The school will be named in honor of Jing Boran, and he is made the honorary principal. The press conference for the limited edition photobook was also attended by Happy Camp hosts He Jiong and Du Haitao as well as Love in Space director Wing Shya and costar Angelababy.

While I’m generally a sucker for any type of charitable work, but this post was definitely made in honor of the school name.

Wu Zetian series features young cast for its trio of strong females

Gillian Chung, Yin Tao and Zheng Shuang portrays three of the most ambitious and successful females in Chinese history.

Along with a stellar cast of experienced actors, three young actresses joined the cast to play three of the most ambitious females in Chinese history in the upcoming Secret History of Wu Zetian (武则天秘史). The Empress herself will be played by three different actresses, including the prestigious Siqin Gaowa and Liu Xiaoqing. Joining them will be young actress Yin Tao, who had previously starred in You Xiaogang’s Secret History of Consort Yang.

Two other key roles in the drama will be played by young, though experienced, actress Gillian Chung and newbie Zheng Shuang in her first historical drama. Gillian and Zheng Shuang plays the no less mystical characters of Shangguan Wan’er and Princess Taiping. Gillian plays Empress Wu’s most trusted adviser and secretary Shangguan Wan’er, known for both for her extraordinary talents as well as tales of intrigue. Princess Taiping, the sole daughter of Wu Zetian, is as ambitious as her mother. Here shown as slightly spoiled but equally brilliant. She  will be played by Meteor Shower’s Zheng Shuang in only her third TV drama.

Liu Shishi and Hu Ge promote Baidu’s Nonprofit Project

Hu and Liu Shishi takes a break from their busy filming schedules to promote Baidu's Nonprofit.

Shanghai Tangren’s Liu Shishi and Hu Ge recently became the spokespeople for Baidu Tieba’s newest charitable project, Bags of Love. The project hopes to utilize the power of one of China’s largest forums to encourage nonprofit work. The latest project will involve purchasing backpacks filled with essential supplies to children in need. In 2010, Baidu Nonprofit raised 243516 RMB from 13 different groups, including 70,000 RMB from pingpong player Wang Hao’s fans, 60,300 from Zhang Jie’s fans, and 47,300 from Alec Su’s fans.

Hu Ge and Liu Shishi, along with the actress Qin Lan, were honored at the press conference for the project recently. Watch parts of it here from MuNianCi@YouTube to see the gentleman Hu Ge help out nervous Liu Shishi out.

Anhui TV's favorite stars reunite for a third drama together

After gaining lots of love in My Daughter 夏家三千金, the quartet of Tang Yan, Roy Qiu, Jones Xu Zhengxi and the Qi Wei are back together in another Anhui TV series – Love Waking Up 爱情睡醒了. This is their third series together, the other one being the upcoming Unbeatable drama 无懈可击之高手如林 starring Hu Ge and Tang Yan.

Unlike the heiress in the My Daughter, Tang Yan’s character this time is a poor hotel maid that’s nevertheless equally lovable. Because of an accident, she falls in love with the CEO of a major company, played by Roy Qiu, who had lost his memories. When he regains his memory, the two are faced with challenges both in love and in business, and must work together to save both themselves and their homes.
