In perhaps a realm of explosion by finally doing his dream music of hip-hop and RnB, Allen Su Xing releases his second self-composed album, Present Tense.
Previously forced to sing more soft, lovey-dovey songs, it’s obvious that Su Xing injected even more of his own thoughts into the music in this album, with songs like Split, Not Your Idol 非偶像 and I’m still singing 我还在唱歌. The album also includes some more traditional pop songs like Afraid to Love 怕爱, Party Queen, and If Love is Wrong 假如爱是一种错, By your side 身旁 and Soulmates, not lovers 只谈心不贪心.
Split, the first MV released for the album, follows the inner struggle of an artist caught between the music he wants to make and the music he’s told to make. In both the song and the MV, Su Xing is split into two opposing voices as they argue it out. A few excerpts from the lyrics and the MV below.
“No, no your music like this won’t have any market.”
“Without dreams and goals, this is ridiculous.
I’ll continue to write and compose my own songs, do my favorite Hip-hop RnB.”
“Wake Up, that’s only what foreigners sing, all you can do is add a few ABCD.”
“These rules are ludicrous. It’s time for you to get up and fight.
Show them that just doing your music is enough.”
