“The Secret History of Princess Taiping” starts filming, will star Alyssa Chia in a dual role

The faces of the cast members for "Secret History of Princess Taiping."

“The Secret History of Wu Zetian (武则天秘史)” hasn’t even been released yet, but a sequel of sorts is already starting to gear up. The filming of “The Secret History of Princess Taiping (太平公主秘史)”  began on the twenty-eighth. The drama will tell the story of Wu Zetian’s daughter, Princess Taiping. (Wikipedia’s article here can give you a pretty good idea about the historical personage.)

Olympic opening ceremony’s star Lin Miaoke will be the child princess, while the teenage Princess Taiping will be played by Zheng Shuang, who continues the role from “The Secret History of Wu Zetian”. Alyssa Chia takes over when the princess reaches her late teens. She will also be playing Princess Taiping’s estranged sister, Princess Angong. It’s said that in order to get rid of her husband’s first empress, Wu Zetian killed her first daughter and accused the empress of murder. This new drama plays a twist on history in that the girl survives and is smuggled out of the palace. Incidentally, she looks exactly like her sister Princess Taiping. Lu Hong from the New My Fair Princess 还珠格格 will play one of the princess’ husbands, Xue Shao. Emperor Li Longji will be Zhang Han. Wu Zetian will be played by two actresses, Liu Yuxin (Bu Bu Xin Jing) and host Li Xiang. Sun Yaoqi, also from the New My Fair princess, will play Shangguan Wan’er. Sammul Chan plays a Tibetan prince.

"Composed-jie" Su Miaoling looks so cute biting into this apple that one of the video crews used this as his wallpaper.

Hunan TV/eeMedia have always lost on quality. Not innovation or content, but quality of packaging.   This year, they have proven to be different.  With a home team of stage crew, photographers and videographers, this year’s Super Girls have been packaged with glamor and beauty.

After their gorgeous MV as goddesses, their latest promotional video does not disappoint. From the director of the Baby Sister MV, the girls star in a creative and beautiful mini-clip showing their paths and determinations to be themselves.   Watch the clip titled “I am I” from below.

July 26, 2011 | Posted in Mainland China,Television, Tagged , , ,

Following the success of Palace Lockheart Jade, the sequel, Gong II/ “宫锁珠帘” (Palace Lock Pearl Curtain) will begin filming in August soon. The series brings back together the old cast(?) for a new adventure in, unfortunately, still the Qing.   The plot synopsis for Gong II below.

The new Gong tells of a new love story set in the times of Yongzheng. Lian’er asked her father to let her into the palace so that she could meet the seventeenth prince, Yunli. The two fall in love and originally planned to marry. But, when Yunli’s teacher Alinga lands in trouble, Yunli has no choice but to marry Alinga’s daughter to save him. A heartbroken Lian’er does her best to protect herself in the palace, desperately dreaming of being able to leave the palace and live an ordinary life. She did not expect to become a piece in a power play, used by those with power and betrayed a girl she had once thought of as a sister. Alliances are made, debts are formed, and just as Lian’er is about to go under, she accidentally attracts the fancy of Yongzheng and becomes one of his consorts. Suddenly, everything becomes so complicated – if she stops now, she will be hurt; but she fears losing herself if she continues. She chooses to believe in the light, and to trust that her perseverance will see her through this storm.

“The Sorcerer and the White Snake” releases trailer, Jet Li plays the head antagonist

Jet Li's "evil" monk takes over the male lead opposite White Snake Huang Shengyi in the new film about the Legend of the White Snake

The trailer for the upcoming film “The Sorcerer and the White Snake” was released not long ago. Although Jet Li was supposed to be a supporting character, he’s beginning to upstage the actual leads. Raymond Lam‘s Xu Xian appears a grand total of seven times in the trailer, while Jet Li’s role as the monk Fa Hai receives numerous close-ups and exciting action sequences. Watch him battle with Eva Huang‘s white snake spirit in the trailer below.
Fleshing out originally less developed characters seems to be more common these days, possibly to add something new into a old legend. There was something similar to this in A Chinese Ghost Story 倩女幽魂, where the demon hunter played by Louis Koo became the lead over Yu Shaoqun’s Ning Caishen. This new series further increases Fa Hai’s importance by giving him a kindhearted apprentice played by the handsome Wen Zhang.  Also in the cast are Charlene Choi and Vivian Hsu.

Laure Shang "La Muse de la Nuit"

Laure Shang becomes a wood nymph in new MV "La Muse de la Nuit"

Laure Shang’s heavenly voice flows perfectly through the romantic French and religious music of “La Muse de la Nuit.” Her new MV, too, brings together her unconventional personality with a conventionally beautiful scene.

In composing “La Muse de la Nuit,” Laure Shang’s French lyrics were inspired by Hugo. Sleep my love, let me watch over you, let me enter your dreams. In the garden of Eden that you wander, sleeps good and evil. Combined with mysterious tones of Southeast Asia, the song depicts a scenes of muses blessing the people in a calm night. Through her penetrating and ethereal voice and Buddhist musical elements, Laure Shang makes a unique world musical style.

Equally beautiful are the scenes in the MV. A sudden thunderstorm gave the filming a crew an unexpected dreamlike scene of Eden. Laure Shang, too, performs as if a goddess in fairyland, using her soul to sing for the world.

Love Waking Up reawakens with fairytale love

July 22, 2011 | Posted in Mainland China,Television, Tagged ,

A familiar cast comes together again, hopefully for a drama that will still provide audiences with fresh feelings

Anhui TV has grown to be one of the top idol drama production houses recently. With Love Waking Up (爱情睡醒了) one of their newest productions, they seem to be continuing their success with idol dramas like “My Daughters 夏家三千金” and Sunny Happiness. Anhui TV’s been continually innovating, constantly working on creating their own pillars to hold them up and screenplays that balance romance with plot. Although unlike their other recent series, this one is a remake of Frog Turns Prince, it’ll surely put its own twists and fun in the show. For one, the series includes an adorable performance by child star Xiao Bao

Wanting the prize money so she can buy a piano for some grade-schoolers, the kind-hearted worker Liu Xiaobei (played by Tang Yan) dresses up in a sparkly ball gown and enters a “My Princess” competition. She ends up meeting and falling for idol Eric (Jones Xu).   This modern-day Cinderella story has a Little Mermaid twist, too – Liu Xiaobei then rescues her prince (unfortunately not named Eric, but is played by Roy Qiu), only he’s lost his memories and already has engagement plans. Eric, it turns out, is also secretly in love with the bride-to-be.

Roy Qiu’s role is decked out in around twenty suits in the series, watch the trailer below and see how many you can count:

Scar of Heaven unveils its newcomer leads

First time actors Gulnazar and Jiang Junfu join the veteran cast of Chinese Paladin 3 as leads.

First time actors Gulnazar and Jiang Junfu join the veteran cast of Chinese Paladin 3 as leads.

Following the success of Chinese Paladin, Shanghai Tangren moves into a different video game for its upcoming series Sword of the Yellow Emperor: Scar of Heaven 轩辕剑-天之痕. Like Chinese Paladin, Tangren uses newcomers as its leads in addition to the familiar cast of Hu Ge, Liu Shishi and Tang Yan. Current Shanghai Drama Academy (Hu Ge, Yuan Hong, Lin Gengxin, etc.) student Jiang Junfu will play the lead role of Chen Jingqiu. While we have previously been familiarized with Jiang Junfu after his appearance on Happy Camp with Yang Mi, we have only seen the other lead in a 1-min audition clip previously.  New actress Gulnazar who plays opposite Jiang Junfu as the Nvwa descendant XiaoXue. Both Gulnazar and Liu Shishi will both be paired with Jiang Junfu, while Tang Yan will be opposite Hu Ge.

What do you think? Will the new stars shoot to success and take over Cfensi’s TV series tag like the Chinese Paladin stars did?  More pictures below.
