Upcoming eeMedia-Huayi film features magic and a varied cast

August 30, 2011 | Posted in Movies, Tagged , , , , , , ,

eeMedia's iMe girl band will appear in "Happy Magic" as a volleyball team. Curiously, they've chosen to pose with a soccer ball.

Huayi and eeMedia team up in the upcoming film ”Happy Magic 开心魔法”. Wu Zun features in this fantasy comedy as the “earth” element sorceror, Ling Feng.  International girl band “iMe” makes a guest star appearance as a volleyball team. True to its name, “Happy Magic” will feature four more sorcerors in addition to the one played by Wu Zun. Louis Koo acts as the “wood” element sorceror, Bak-Ming Wong as the “water” element sorceror, Jacky Wu as the “fire” sorceror, and Tonny Jan as the “metal” sorceror.

The story tells of a girl who was landed with supernatural powers by chance, and whose life underwent enormous changes as a result. She becomes entangled with the magic world, and drawn into a conflict of good versus evil with the five elemental sorcerors. She will be played by the newcomer Karena Ng (Wu Xinrong), a seventeen year old model from Hong Kong.

Pictures of Louis Koo and Tonny Jan have been released, they can be seen below the cut.

Wei Chen performs new songs on MNET’s M!Countdown, sings with MBLAQ members

August 25, 2011 | Posted in Mainland China,Music, Tagged ,

Thanks to being the first eeMedia – CJ E&M (Korean media giant that owns MNET)  collaborative artist, singer-actor-composer Wei Chen first performed his new songs for his upcoming album on MNET”s M!Countdown. The two songs, one slow and one fast, visibly show the increased quality of Wei Chen’s second album over his almost indie first album. This marks not only an important step for Wei Chen, but also for his company eeMedia as its first collaboration with a Korean company other than Top Combine’s DoReMi, who’s not nearly good enough for eeMedia。  Some sources that his shimei, this year’s Super Girls Hong Chen and Liu Xin may also sign with CJ E&M, which’ll be awkward since Liu Xin had previously debuted under JYP.

Which performance do you like better? Fast song DayBreak or slow song Run Away with MBLAQ members?

Stills from upcoming movie “White Vengeance” show off Feng Shaofeng and Liu Yifei

Feng Shaofeng and Liu Yifei play out the heartrending romance between Xiang Yu and Consort Yu.

Feng Shaofeng definitely stepped into the role of Xiang Yu, “Hegemon-King of Western Chu” for new film, “White Vengeance 鸿门宴.” In a recently released set of stills for the upcoming movie, the design for the male and female leads was finally unveiled. Liu Yifei’s Consort Yu looks pretty and tragic, matching up to the historical personage. Feng Shaofeng is suitably commanding and assertive.

Filming wrapped up last month. The movie is expected to come out in November. More pictures can be found below the cut.

Scar of Heaven releases teaser trailer

Wallace Huo left her for Liu Shishi in Strange Hero, so Tang Yan takes comfort in Hu Ge's arms. Scar of Heaven will be Hu Ge and Tang Yan's second project together as lovers.

The leads of Scar of Heaven recently assembled for a press conference, where Shanghai Tangren unveiled a five-minute teaser.

Hu Ge does not rely completely on his face to feed himself. In addition to playing a lead character in Scar of Heaven, Hu Ge has also invested in the series. A host at the conference asked if that meant Hu Ge would have more decision-making power when it came to things like casting, but Hu Ge stated that it was absolutely forbidden to have covert dictations like that. He also said that acting would remain his priority.Like the Chinese Paladin dramas, Scar of Heaven will be directed by Li Guoli. Fans are calling Scar of Heaven and Chinese Paladin “the double swords.”

Three animated features show signs of imitation but also improvement

Legend of the Rabbit Hero

Despite little promotions, Legend of the Rabbit Hero is already beating major film Wuxia (Takeshi Kaneshiro and Tang Wei's) in daytime sales

Inarguably one of the weakest sections of the Chinese film industry, the animation department seems to be picking up ground along with the rest of the industry.  This summer, three animated features are lined up for releases. Already, Rabbit Hero has become the third Chinese animation to exceed a million yuan in box office sales.

The Legend of the Rabbit Hero 兔侠传奇 has obvious American influences, while Kuiba 魁拔 shows Japanese influence.  Nevertheless, the two animations both show major improvements in animation and are a good start. No one accused of Anastasia for copying Disney, so please don’t bash these films. If these series succeeds, hopefully this will spur on more investment in animation and allow for a larger growth in animations in China.

Meanwhile, Spaceship Sai’er is based on a popular video game for kids and is coproduced by eeMedia. See the other two trailers below the cut

Vae mocks eminent domain and urban life with new MV’s

August 12, 2011 | Posted in Mainland China,Music, Tagged
Vae

Although he's finally appearing in his own MV's, Vae still plays backdrop to his music and stories.

After years of being Indie,Vae has finally signed with a musical label. That hasn’t stopped him from making unconventional songs, however.  Almost none of his songs in the upcoming were about love, but instead reflects realistic life. Other than his title song, two more MV’s have been released, each with its own quirk and message.

In Demolition of the East wall 拆東牆, Vae sings of a Ming dynasty restaurant owner whose home was expropriated by the government. The clever and satirical lyrics, the zhongguofeng-style song, and the realistic style of the MV perfects the tale. The story reflects an increasing conflict between the choice of new developments and preservation of old dwellings. Watch the MV below.

Meanwhile, in a less comprehendable MV, Great mountains and rivers 河山大好 praises the beauty of the outdoors. The song tells you to stop staying home all day and take your parents on a trip to visit the beautiful mountains and historical cities of China. Watch the MV for it here.
