Boyband 8090 to debut next Super Boys competition

Most boybands, like M.I.C., train in secrecy before debuting.  This summer, Hunan TV and eeMedia brings the creation of a boyband to the public eye as viewers follow the formation of eeMedia’s new boyband 8090 from day one to its rise.

Potential 8090 members are chosen from over 100,000 competitors of Super Boys, a Chinese Idol competition. Once chosen, they are placed into intensive training with eeMedia and Korean company DoReMi. As more members are chosen each early round of Super Boys, others are eliminated for various reason. Last week, after over two months of training, the final elimination left the complete boyband with 7 members, who will debut next Friday (08/06) on Super Boys to compete against the top 7 Super Boys competitors in future rounds.

2009 Beijing Pop Music Awards

fc6159afc43951c8fbed50a8

A-list Chinese pop singers and musicians gathered at the National Olympic Center on Friday night for the annual Beijing Pop Music Awards gala, one of the most influential events that honors excellence in the industry. Pop veteran Wang Leehom dominated this year’s ceremony by notching four awards, while veteran rocker Wang Feng followed with three wins. Jane Zhang won Best Female Artist for the fourth time in a row, which brought her to tears rarely seen from the singer, especially as she thought of how she missed her mom and how as a busy aspiring artist, she had few opportunities to see her and talk to her. Returning veteran Han Hong beat out Chris Li Yuchun for most popular female artist. Song Zuying, the queen of folk, made a special surprise appearance.

"Lian Ai Ba" Begins Production

L-R Director, Chen Kun, Yuan Quan, Debbie Goh, and Lu Yi

Remember when I said Chen Kun and Yuan Quan were going to star in something? Well, production commenced, and the other two cast members are Lu Yi and Debbie Goh! That’s quite a cast, and those first three names are all so good at singing that I’m crying that this isn’t a musical.  But that’s okay, because it’s a romantic comedy, which isn’t a genre I’m adverse to. “Liang Ai Ba” (Dating) is based off a hugely popular novel about a love triangle between a divorced woman, her ex-husband and his best friend. Go below for synopsis and some pictures from filming.

Kelly Lin and Sun Honglei Will Star in a Romantic Comedy

9117b319181acf6742a9ad20

As much as I like BOBO, this seems more of a romantic comedy done right, mostly due to the talent that’s in it. Sun Honglei is one of my favorite actors of all time, and definitely my favorite Chinese actor. His charisma just makes him enjoyable to watch, always. Taiwanese actress Kelly Lin is gorgeous, and yet not your stereotypical idol actress. Produced by John Woo, Michelle Yeoh and Terrence Chang, the romantic comedy “Dirt Rich In Shanghai” started production about a week ago and is being filmed in Xiamen.

Chinese News Batch #4: Music Themed

1. Top Combine is also getting the special treatment with a second MV for their first EP, just like Vicky Liu Yanwei. I remember the Supergirls didn’t get anything like this when they first started out. In particular Jane Zhang got absolutely nothing for her first album. Times are a changing. The MV is of Cotton Candy and is taking place at an amusement park. I’ve only posted one picture of Liu Zhoucheng, but you can check out more pics here and here of the other boys in Top Combine, ones that won’t make you look at your own face and despair at why your skin isn’t as nice and glowing as his. Highlights include Ma Xueyang playing this violin (!) and Jin Ensheng with balloons.
