Quintessenso Hulunbei’er Children Choir to make U.S. debut with Lang Lang

Children of the Hulunbei'er plains come to the U.S.

Everyone’s favorite Quintessenso Hulunbei’er Children Choir, including children from four different ethnic minorities of the Hulunbei’er Plains, will be debuting in a performance along with pianist Lang Lang at the Lincoln Center on January 24th this year.  Lang Lang will also be playing on the 18th through the 21st.  More information and tickets here.

The group was founded by Mongolian singer Burenbaya’er and his wife, Evenki singer Wurina . The two gained national fame for their performance of 吉祥三宝 on the Spring Festival Gala. Since then, the two has been doing some of the most wonderful jobs in promoting the cultural heritage of the region, including a gorgeous Evenki album, an Evenki dance troupe, and the formation of the choir.  The Children’s Choir itself has been featured on a variety of shows, including Hunan TV’s Happy Camp and Gelivable Sunday, Dragon TV’s China’s Got Talent, and Taiwanese variety show Kangxi Laile.

Thanks to Benji for bringing this event to my attention!

Wang Ye Back with Glory in new MV

January 15, 2012 | Posted in Mainland China,Music, Tagged

Is anyone else waiting for a Wang Ye photoshoot that actually shows his excellent figure (cough, shirtless, cough)?

New Sony singer Wang Ye released his third MV, and definitely my favorite one so far. The video game theme combines clips of him singing and of the video game itself.  Wang Ye is a rare male entertainer who pulls off the “manly gentleman” image, and I’m hoping for powerful songs from his first album,  which he is currently recording. Yang Yang and Li Wei sing for Phoenix Totem

The end of the earth occurred too often,
and forever came too soon
Slice a beam of light, through the makeup of the sky,
and it can’t shine through the facade of lies,
are you like me, once promised, unable to forget?

-Promise by Li Wei and Yang Yang

A graceful ballad of love, “Promise” is a classic ancient drama theme from two young stars – singers Yang Yang and Li Wei. Produced by Yan Danchen (Meteor Shower, Bu Bu Jing Xin) for the Phoenix Totem OST, the song is definitely one of my favorites from 2011. Watch the recently released MV below from @YouTube.

Faye Wong performs new song during New Year’s

January 1, 2012 | Posted in Music, Tagged

Amongs mountains and rivers, Faye Wong sings a song of Buddhist Blessings for the audience.

Singer Faye Wong made her third television appearance ever with a new spiritual song on Hunan TV’s New Year Concert.   Unfortunately, even Faye Wong herself acknowledged that she messed up in the beginning. Listen to the much better version of the song here, but watch the live anyways for the breathtaking visuals depicted in the performance.
