Zhou Xun and Alec Su visits Kenyan school

April 7, 2010 | Posted in Mainland China,Taiwan, Tagged ,
Zhou Xun also visited an elephant nursery for elephants who often became orphans due to proachers.

Zhou Xun feed a baby elephant. More and more elephants are being orphaned due to poachers and habitat destruction.

Last week, Zhou Xun and Alec Su  visited the Beijing Elementary  in Mathare, the seconde poorest quarter in Kenya’s capital, to bring necessities and supplies for school, and studied with the children. A third of the student population is consisted of orphans, and another third from single-parent families. The school was renamed Beijing Elementary in thanks of a $25000 donation by the Chinese embassy in Kenya. The principal explained  this school has not only granted many children the privilege of being educated, but made sure that they had smaller risk of contracting AIDS, being sold or become child laborers. He hoped that there will be lasting friendship between China and Africa.

Zhou Xun visited first grade, and her arrival brought excitement among children. They gathered around her to share videos and play games together. Alec Su went to a higher grade, and taught children some basic Chinese, and sung songs with them. During the donation, Zhou Xun, Alec Su, and other representatives  also distributed  supplies to the children around them.

At the end of this activity, the group picked up paper boxes and packagings around them. Zhou said, “Paper boxes, bags, and such are some of the biggest sources of white pollution. Although this trip is meant to support the elementary, we should still remain aware of protecting the environment. This is also a way to clean up after ourselves and thus showing our love and support for the staff and children at the school”

The two also planted trees in an UN forest, and visited a nursery for orphaned elephants. After hearing their company  – Huayi Brothers – had adopted 100 wells for the Southwestern Drought Relief, Zhou Xun also expressed wishes to participate in the program.

Zhou Xun and Alec Su  expressed that charity is not a simple one-time act, and that we all should do our share to support those that are less fortunate, and gather attention from more parts of the society to education issues and environmental issues in areas of poverty.

Alec Su for "Harper's Bazaar Men's Style"

I’m starting to really love Harpaar’s Bazaar Men’s Style…while it has a way to go before it matches the photoshoots of its original counterpart for the ladies, it’s slowly getting better. This time Alec Su gets featured. I’m still wary of watching his Princess of Returning Pearl but Alec Su’s recent, darker endeavors are much more interesting. From his role as a crazy narcissistic, and verbose actor in Call for Love 2 to the  glimpse we got to see of his panicked fear at torture in the upcoming The Message, his acting is getting to show its range off, beyond his Qiong Yao heroes of the past. This photoshoot shows that darker Alec Su off well. His Huang Zhu Ge Ge alumnus, Fan Bingbing also recently had a photoshoot for Marie Claire, but I’m getting sick of seeing her face, so I’ll just link to it here. Go below the cut for more Alec.

Hua Yi Spares No Expense for The Message

The Message (Feng Sheng) movie continues to get the special treatment from Hua Yi, at this point clearly the most powerful entertainment company in China. Earlier, I mentioned that in a strange and rare move, Hua Yi had casted all of its biggest stars for Sound of Wind…Zhou Xun, Li Bingbing, Huang Xiaoming, and Zhang Hanyu, showing how important it was to them. Even Alec Su has been relegated to a supporting role. Now with pictures revealing the rich detail of the set, it’s shown that Hua Yi is sparing no expense for the production costs either, saying it was “without limits”. Zhou Xun marveled excitedly that it’s the most lavish set she’s ever been on, and both she and Li Bingbing says that this will be the new definitive work of their career.

Fit Lover Movie Theme MV

It looks like Deng Chao is the main lead. Congrats…out of 12 actors, that’s quite an accomplishment. They made the right choice in picking the charismatic Karena Lam as the lead. I’m watching this, and I don’t hate her. Sorry that the audio quality is not so good on the video. It’s actually quite a pretty song. Under the cut.

Not enough actresses to go around in the PRC?

Those criticizing the one-child rule can look no further than upcoming films in China for support. “Fit Lover” is going to star 12 guys chasing after one girl (a spin-off of the 2007 Lunar-New-Year comedy where 10 women chased after one guy), and the upcoming Superboys musical will have all 13 region winners. It doesn’t matter how bad these films turn out; I will probably watch them more than once. It’s going to be cracktastic.

The cast list of Fit Lover with more pics under the cut, and pics from the press conference of the Superboys musical.
