Chen Kun in Tibet

Chen Kun leads his group on a trek to do learn and do good.

After the “Power to Go” hiking campaign in Tibet, sponsored by Chen Kun, “Power to go” 2011 photo exhibition opened on Thursday at the UNIONART gallery in Beijing 798 Art Zone. More than 80 photographic works are exhibited.

The “Power to go” hiking campaign is the first public service project launched by Chen’s company and aims to call for people to actively go out and get positive energy through walking. “1+N” going to Tibet was its first station. On the “roof of the world”, Chen and university volunteers walked for 11 days. At the same time of challenging their physical limits, they tried their best to help Tibet children, families, and schools, while spread intangible cultural heritage of Tibet.

The whole tour covered about 115 kilometers, and they walked through Serawoze Mountain, Yamzhog Yumco Lake, Ganden Monastery, Samye Monastery and other places, with an average altitude of over 4500 meters. Every precious image on their way, such as the natural scenery and customs are recorded through the lens. Those beautiful photographs are selected and exhibited to review the significance of walking during the tour through image language.

Zhou Xun, Chen Kun, Zhao Wei meets Yang Mi, Feng Shaofeng in Painted Skin II

Zhou Xun, Chen Kun, Zhao Wei meets newbie actors Yang Mi and Feng Shaofeng and director Wuershan.

The veteran trio of Zhou Xun, Chen Kun and Zhao Wei returns for Painted Skin “II,” this time meeting the young and hot couple of Yang Mi and Feng Shaofeng.  The new film is now produced by Huayi Brothers, and features new director Wuershan . It’s uncertain how this will exactly relate to the original film, especially since its original director has another purported sequel filmed.

Feng Shaofeng is especially excited to work with his favorite actress Zhou Xun, saying that working with her has been a dream of his. He also said that this will be his strangest role so far (perhaps the mosquito-eating lizard?).

Which of the “Painted Skin” sequels are you looking forward to more? The original director Gordon Chan’s “Painted Mural” with real-life couple Sun Li, Deng Chao and Zheng Shuang … or the original leads’ “Painted Skin II?”

Ady An Celebrates Birthday on “If You Are The One 2″ Set; Next ‘Hua Yi’ Leading Lady?

704_174850_160806

l_R Wang Zhonglei, Ady An, and Feng Xiaogang

Two days ago was  actress Ady An Yixuan‘s birthday, and also the last day for filming on the set of her new movie, “If You Are the One 2″, the sequel to the Feng Xiaogang-directed 2008 blockbuster. Having heard she had not celebrated with her birthday on a film/drama set for 6 years, the cast and crew specially prepared a cake for her. Also celebrating with her was Wang Zhonglei, the CEO of Hua Yi, her management company and Feng Xiaogang, the director, a longtime friend of Ady’s.

With the news of Hua Yi’s top actress Zhou Xun leaving  just a week before, many questions were raised. One was if Zhou Xun‘s reason for leaving also had something to due with best friend Chen Kun amiably leaving his own company of many years (headed by Li Shaohong). It was rumored that the two might start their own company together. The other question posed was who would fill the vacancy left in Hua Yi as one of their top actresses. Ady has been recently tackling film roles, and while in “If You Are the One 2″ she  only plays a supporting character next to Shu Qi‘s leading lady, it is one of her most high profile  film roles to date and suggests that the importance of her future roles in film may steadily increase.

Xue Zhiqian Reveals New Song For…Chinese Chess? + Other Performances

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d76qF4pH-xU]

Xue Zhiqian sang his new song, “Chu He Han Jie” (not on his recently released compilation album) , which apparently is the themesong to… the end of the year Chinese Chess tournament in Shanghai.  Poor Xue Zhiqian. Why does Universal suck so much at finding promotional opportunities for you? Composed by Xue Zhiqian, and lyrics cowritten by him and the charmain of the chess organization. I really hope Xue Zhiqian goes back and edits the song, because his lyrics are usually better.

Chen Kun's 3rd Album "Mi ME" Pictures

December 12, 2009 | Posted in Mainland China, Tagged

This was an abruptly announced entry into the packed December release schedule. Chen Kun is known mainly as an actor, but he worked his way through college by singing in bars, and has previously released two albums, Osmosis (2004) and To Come True Once Again (2006). Now after a very busy and successful year in films and television, he’s releasing his third album. Previously he had a mellow, rnb/jazz sound (his favorite genre), but the direction here seems completely different.

"Mulan" Received Well at the Box Office But Not Critically

No matter how their projects turn out, this pair always has such nice chemistry off-screen as decade-old friends. Behind the Story vids below.

This movie has been hyped. Hyped because of the theme songs (Stefanie Sun trumps all in terms of popularity in China), hyped because it was Mulan, one of the most famous heroines in Chinese culture, and hyped because it was Vicky Zhao Wei, who is just loved and unlike most Chinese celebs, not just within China’s boundaries.

And the sales reflected that. In six days the movie earned 50 million yuan its first six days, not the highest China’s seen, but  a solid success and the Chen Kun-Zhao Wei pairing was proclaimed a box office guarantee since their first on-screen pairing  Painted Skin, also was a hit. But all those factors doesn’t mean good movie. Basically, this is a post for everyone looking forward to this movie to go in with low expectations.  Because while this movie has drummed up more overseas interest than other Chinese films this year, simply because of the name “Mulan” (thanks Disney!) this is not even close to being one of the better Chinese films of this year, or even of the holiday season. Expectations should have been low from the start since the director is Jingle Ma.

"The Message" Tops the Box Office during China's National Holiday Week

Huang Xiaoming goes behind the lens to shoot Zhou Xun on Feng Sheng's set

The Message (Feng Sheng) topped the coveted national holiday week, with 150 million RMB (22 USD) which is really, really high to the point of raising eyebrows. Either way, the film has done what Hua Yi has out to do  – be a blockbuster, and  showcase some of its finest actors, which has been accomplished with both main actresses nabbing Golden Horse nods.  Actor Huang Xiaoming also got to show off his improvement  singing, by performing the theme song live rather impressively (though not enough for me to want another album from him). Li Bingbing and Alec Su look like they’re enjoying the performance too.
