Huang Xiaoming stars as the patriot Yue Fei

Huang Xiaoming steps into the role of another legendary hero.

Huang Xiaoming of “Return of the Condor Heroes” fame is to star in “The Patriot Yue Fei 精忠岳飞”as the title character, the staunch Song general Yue Fei. The 60-episode series is estimated to be broacast in December and will chronicle Yue Fei’s life from his lowly beginnings to his ultimate demise by the machinations of Qin Hui, to be played by Gallen Lo. More pictures of Huang Xiaoming in costume under the cut.

As “The Patriot Yue Fei” will be a war genre story, it’s not surprising that the cast is dominated by males. In fact, so far ”The Patriot of Yue Fei”  seems to feature no leading women whatsoever. (Given the role the historical Yue Fei’s mother played in his life, however, this could prove to be wrong.) Fan Bingbing will not be acting, but she has invested in the production.

Fan BIngbing for Mercedes-Benz

Fan BIngbing for Mercedes-Benz

As the spokesperson for international brands like L’Oreal, Mercedes-Benz, and Nokia as well as numerous Chinese brands,   Fan Bingbing was recently named “the most profitable female spokesperson” by the top advertising magazine in China. For example, Mercedes-Benz’s sales rose by 35% in 2011, although we can’t say how much Fan Bingbing contributed to that.

Both the commercial and the booklet came out a few months ago, but I’ve only found the photoshoot recently.  Watch her commercial with racecar driver Nico Rosberg below and more photos below the cut.

“Sweet Ambassador” Fan Bingbing poses with a tempting ice cream “hot pot/fondue.”  I’m generally perplexed by the high status of Haagen-Dazs in China, but I wish ice cream stores here had ice cream fondue!

Fan Bingbing and Wang Leehom walks together at Busan

October 6, 2011 | Posted in Mainland China, Tagged ,

Wang Leehom continues to exhibit perfect taste in who he works with.

As a part of their upcoming film  on Concubine Yang, Fan Bingbing and Wang Leehom walked the red carpet of the Busan international film festival together today.

The film stars Fan Bingbing as the Concubine Yang and Wang Leehom as the poet Li Bai .   I’m not really sure about this casting since Fan Bingbing is fierce and skinny and not like Yang Guifei, and Wang Leehom is not exactly the type to come to mind when I think of Li Bai.  Plus, the director is Korean director Kwak Jae-yong, who hasn’t exactly done any historical epics.

Oh well, at least Fan Bingbing and Wang Leehom makes an awesome pair.  More pictures below the cut.

Fashion queen Fan Bingbing meets designers Dolce & Gabbana for a Peony Pavilion-themed photoshoot in the July issue of Men’s Uno. I’m not too fond of Chen Man’s photoshoots, but this is an interesting concept and Fan Bingbing looks as amazing as always.

Fan Bingbing and Gong Li at Cannes

Fan Bingbing and Gong Li at Cannes. Whose dress do you like better?

After her gorgeous dragon robe last year, Fan Bingbing went for another Chinese-styled dress this year at the opening of Cannes. Her red dress, the first designed by her stylist, is embroidered with white cranes, a symbol of peace, and the four noble plants. The cut also imitates those of the Tang-dynasty. I personally feel like the  dress would’ve been better with just the cranes, but Fan Bingbing looks gorgeous as usual.  Meanwhile, Gong Li went for a more classy and traditional look with a Roberto Cavalli dress.

More pictures below the cut, and more on the outfits this week here. (more…)
