Liu Yifei and Feng SHaofeng for White Vengeance

Liu Yifei and Feng Shaofeng makes a surprisingly good pair as Yu Ji and Xiang Yu

Although short, the love story of Yu Ji (Liu Yifei) and Xiang Yu (Feng Shaofeng), from first meeting to separation and to the famous scene of “Farewell, my concubine 霸王别姬,” is one of the highlights of White Vengeance (鸿门宴).

The new released MV recaptures that romance.  As the song of the Chu plays out, the tragic love of the pair again returns to their first meeting, when he completed her forbidden duet to save her and when she took his hand in trust. Watch the MV below.

LIu Yifei and Feng Shaofeng in White Vengeance

Both a Battle God and one of the iconic tragic romance symbols, Xiang Yu comes to life with Feng Shaofeng.

After fellow Palace/Gong star Yang Mi held up the box office of the best selling horror film in Chinese history,  Feng Shaofeng made his first debut as a major film lead in White Vengeance.  Cast alongside veterans Leon Lai, Zhang Hanyun, Huang Qiusheng and Crystal Liu YifeiFeng Shaofeng managed to be the breakout actor, wooing viewers with his 180 degree change from a pretty face to a fierce warlord.

According to sina, “Lookwise, Feng’s Xiangyu has all of Xiangyu’s majestic fierceness. Actingwise, his protrayal is just as commendable: he combines the Western Chu Warlord’s outwardly strength and power , the hero’s angst and anger, the child’s reliance on Fan Zeng, and the lover’s hidden emotions for Yu Ji. Be it questioning Liu Bang or parting ways with Fan Zeng, the complexity is shown through his eyes. In the war scenes, he perfectly exhibits Xiang Yu’s status as a battle god, making him the most prominent character of the film. ”

Various intrigue dramas release theme songs

Three upcoming intrigue dramas, set in the Tang, Ming and Republican Era respectively, recently released theme songs. The Secret History of Wu Zetian begun airing today, Hidden Intentions and The Emperor’s Harem will air tomorrow  Which one are you most looking forward to (if at all, given the number of recent intrigue dramas)?

First up is the most lei lyrics ever for a theme from The Secret History of Wu Zetian. The chorus is actually really good, but the rest of the lyrics doesn’t even try to rhyme. This drama does seem to have the best production value, however, and stars high-esteemed actresses like Siqin Gaowa and Liu Xiaoqing as well as younger stars like Yin Tao and Zheng Shuang. My favorite line is “转眼间大明宫词已成灰” at 1:34.

Stills from upcoming movie “White Vengeance” show off Feng Shaofeng and Liu Yifei

Feng Shaofeng and Liu Yifei play out the heartrending romance between Xiang Yu and Consort Yu.

Feng Shaofeng definitely stepped into the role of Xiang Yu, “Hegemon-King of Western Chu” for new film, “White Vengeance 鸿门宴.” In a recently released set of stills for the upcoming movie, the design for the male and female leads was finally unveiled. Liu Yifei’s Consort Yu looks pretty and tragic, matching up to the historical personage. Feng Shaofeng is suitably commanding and assertive.

Filming wrapped up last month. The movie is expected to come out in November. More pictures can be found below the cut.

Zhou Xun, Chen Kun, Zhao Wei meets Yang Mi, Feng Shaofeng in Painted Skin II

Zhou Xun, Chen Kun, Zhao Wei meets newbie actors Yang Mi and Feng Shaofeng and director Wuershan.

The veteran trio of Zhou Xun, Chen Kun and Zhao Wei returns for Painted Skin “II,” this time meeting the young and hot couple of Yang Mi and Feng Shaofeng.  The new film is now produced by Huayi Brothers, and features new director Wuershan . It’s uncertain how this will exactly relate to the original film, especially since its original director has another purported sequel filmed.

Feng Shaofeng is especially excited to work with his favorite actress Zhou Xun, saying that working with her has been a dream of his. He also said that this will be his strangest role so far (perhaps the mosquito-eating lizard?).

Which of the “Painted Skin” sequels are you looking forward to more? The original director Gordon Chan’s “Painted Mural” with real-life couple Sun Li, Deng Chao and Zheng Shuang … or the original leads’ “Painted Skin II?”

Yang Mi and Feng Shaofeng continues their love story in modern times.

Popular Palace/Gong couple Yang Mi and Feng Shaofeng are timetravelling to modern Shanghai/Hangzhou to continue their love story with Symphony of Fate/命运交响曲, a new drama that begun filming on the 26th. The team for the Korean drama Hello! Miss will do the costume and makeup for the drama,  and the scenes will will be filmed in Shanghai, Hangzhou and Thailand.

In the Symphony of Fate, Yang Mi plays an aspiring fashion designer who is tricked into prison by her ambitious model sister. Feng Shaofeng plays two different love interests for Yang Mi. The first falls in love at first sight with Yang Mi’s character and pursues her. Yet once she finally reciprocate his love, he is killed. The second half of the story follows  Yang Mi’s character as she tries to start life again as a fashion designer. Between her sad past and success, she meets a seemingly cold character played by Feng Shaofeng. The two get off on the wrong start, but eventually fall in love after a few misunderstandings.

For workaholic Yang Mi, this is her third drama project this year already (the other ones being The Heaven of a Beauty and Beijing Love Story). So far this year, she has already accepted three other film roles (The Last Supper (王的盛宴), Gong film, and unannounced) and one other drama role (period drama 如意). She’s so busy that she had to turn down a magazine’s offer that includes a week of photoshoots/vacation in the Maldives.

Did you know there's an arrow in your hair Qingchuan? Let me get that for you.

Famous drama screenwriter Yu Zheng, fresh off the success of his latest series Schemes of a Beauty/Mei Ren Xin Ji unveiled the cast of his newest drama, called Gong this past July, and using some of the same actors and actresses from Schemes, with Yang Mi as the female lead this time, and Feng Shaofeng (only a cameo in Schemes) as the male one. The story revolves around time traveling to the Qing Dynasty (a popular theme in Chinese literature). Yang Mi’s character, Luo Qingchuan gets transported to the time of Kang Xi, and realizing this, tries to get on the good side of the 4th son (Mickey He) since according to history he wins the throne, and the rest of the brothers…don’t. However, the playful and mischievous 8th brother (Feng) both pulls pranks and falls in love with Qingchuan, and vice versa, complicating matters and Qingchuan’s plans.

Yesterday, new stills were releasing, showing the playful, antagonistic early side of their relationship, which you can see below the cut. The drama also boasts an extremely large budget, with some pieces of jewelry alone costing tens of thousands of yuan.
