Xue Zhiqian is the first person to be nominated for all six of the major awards given by the Chinese Pop Music Ceremony in one year, including “best original composer,” “best album,” “best male singer,” “most popular singer,” “best album producer,” and “Golden song of the year” for both “Legend” and “Deeply in love with you,” which you can read about here and here.

This one is set in modern day times, featuring the reincarnations of the two main characters from the first MV. Cliched, but always effective I guess. This is the modern version of the song, a bit slower than the classical version. I had thought about waiting to post this MV together with the first MV, but this forces you to give it a second chance yes? Artists who don’t just rely on a pretty face but do their own compositions and lyrics should be recognized more, and I still think it’s ridiculous I didn’t know Xue was the composer for the majority of his songs, especially all his good songs, until his third album. For this album he composed and wrote the lyrics for everything except for track 3 Let You Go and track 6, The Imprisonment of the Universe.

Also, here are some pictures from a promo photoshoot he did for this album release, where he tries to look cool but just somehow manages to look cute instead. He really tries that cool hip-hop look too much for someone who writes sensitive love ballads. It confuses me.

So a while back I wrote that Shinji Tanimura had invited Jacky Xue Zhiqian to his Osaka music festival, and then idarklight pointed out, hey, Xue Zhiqian writes his own songs! Which is amazing, because who knew this good-looking guy could write such beautiful songs? I need to stop being prejudiced. This is his newest single from his 3rd album, also called Deeply Loved You.

The first single was “Legend/Chuan Shuo” which was the one that got him invited to the festival. The MV for this has two parts, one set in their past life and one set in the present day. The album will release in December. I highly recommend you check out this MV for the first part, since it’s got all the cliched parts of Asian MVs that we love and the song is really pretty.

Mini Chinese Entertainment Updates

Updates because I touched upon all of these topics before. If you don’t believe me, check the tags.

Why didn't I read the script for this before signing the contract?

Why didn't I read the script before agreeing to this movie?

1. Fan Bingbing’s Home Run was the worst-performing movie in recent years with a big-name star. Ouch. But now that she’s a bomb at the box office she’s being compared to Vicky Zhao Wei and I think she’s actually getting a bit more sympathy than she usually does, so not a total loss. Besides…it can’t be all her fault. Chapman To was in it to. Plus the story was just whack.

Xue Zhiqian invited to Japan's Osaka Asia music festival by Shinji Tanimura

Shinji Tanimura and Jacky Xue Zhiqian

I have to say, even though any sort of Asian collaboration makes me a little bit hopeful for the future of Asia, I love seeing Japanese-Chinese collabs a little bit more, because usually they are not motivated by money as much as say Korean-Chinese collabs. Never is this more apparent than at the Osaka Asia music Festival, under the direction of “Japanese music godfather” Shinji Tanimura, who also wanted to use it to collect for the 512 Sichuan Earthquake.

However the reason that idol singer Xue Zhiqian was invited was a very simple one: Shinji recently heard the melancholy ‘Zhong Guo Feng’ song, “Chuan Shuo”, or “Legend” which he liked very much, saying it was a hard to come across, excellent song. Xue was very moved at this, and said he hope to keep correspondence with Shinji.

Dragon TV celebrates its 5th anniversary

u2389p28t3d2229910f326dt20081031122721

This is a photoshoot that was taken maybe a week ago to celebrate the 5th anniversary of Dragon TV, a popular channel in China, though not as popular as Hunan TV. The shoot features stars that acheived their fame through Dragon TV, so if you don’t follow Chinese tv then you’ll know nobody in here, but there’s My Hero’s Pu Bajia, Song Xiaobo, and Qin Yanshi and My Show’s Xue Zhiqian. And also some old people I don’t know. I never got around to putting it up because I was busy, but was reminded when they held their event for this. I liked the photoshoot because it was rather trippy, something like Anne Lebowitz would do and something I hope to see more of in Chinese photoshoots. Also I’m always happy seeing Song Xiaobo in anything. Click on the gallery for pics, and under the cut are a few (emphasis on few) pics of people at the premiere, which included Ma Tianyu, Zhang Junning and BOBO. You can watch the entire show/celebration with me.

Chinese Celebrities When They Were Young

I said I would do a special fun post in exchange for someone making my banner when site hit 10,000. Well, here it is as promised, although nobody ever made me a banner. :( This is still incomplete…I don’t have a few people in here, and I wanted to put an after pic of everyone, but I got way too tired of that so I only put some for some people I didn’t think people would know (like all the mainland guys apparently), but eventually I will update this and make it the most comprehensive Chinese celeb baby picture list ever.

Love or hate her, you’ve got to admit Liu Yifei was one of the most adorable children ever.

More of cute adorable children behind the cut. I think it’s really rare for Chinese people to do plastic surgery (as of now) so this won’t be one of those “spot the differences” posts. This took a lot of time and effort to put together, so PLEASE DO NOT COPY AND POST ANYWHERE ELSE, w/o permission.
