Singer Jane Zhang will host her second overseas concert in Sydney, Australia, as a part of her concert series in Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjing and Chengdu. Her Sydney stop will be on October 9th at the Acer Arena. You can buy tickets at Golden Moon Restaurant, New World Communication and Grand Hair in Chinatown, Endless Comis in Eastwood or New World Communication in Hurstville.
Her universalism doesn’t stop there. She recently dueted with JJ Lin for Disney/Shanghai Media Group/ Huayi Brothers co-production of Chinese High School Musical, which will air in early August.

In a world where music can be produced with computers, and singing often means lipsynching, there’s something precious about live music – especially on TV. MTV True Live is a series that I’ve really enjoyed. It has the perfect atmosphere for live music (not that it’s really live since we’re not there) – enough audiences for artists to get excited in, but not concert-like, so the artists can really feel comfortable and interact with the music and band.
Artists who have gone on include Yoga Lin & Jeno (Jade) Liu, Kay Tse & Chen Chusheng, Jane Zhang & Zhang Yadong, Zhang Jie & Tan Weiwei, Laure Shang & Super VC and Shin & Li Yuchun. Some highlights from each show, including Jane Zhang’s beautiful cover of Sting’s Fragile, cute duets between Yoga Lin and Jeno Liu, and a powerful duet by Tan Weiwei and Zhang Jie. Laure Shang and SuperVC’s episode is not on YouTube, but you can watch it on tudou here.
Extra points for figuring out what all of the pairs have in common other than the boy-girl pairings!

Jane Zhang and Show City Times recently announced that Pan Chen will soon be under Show City Times management, with the signing ceremony coming soon. Pan Chen’s first project under her new company was to film the MV’s for Jane Zhang’s “If this is love” and “it’s alright” alongside Joseph Chang. The official announcement came out on April 2nd on Show City Time’s website.
Jane said that they chose to sign with Pan Chen because she ” haven’t seen a female artist with such great looks and talents in a long time. She’s a real “talented idol.” Not only does she have potential in music, but also acting, and is an all-around artist.” The Show City Times article also said that Pan Chen will soon release a single under the company, which will be her second solo single after “No Big Deal” in the Super Girls’ Cover Girls album.
Although born and grown up Shanghainese (and with a definitely Shanghainese sassy and cosmopolitan attitude) , Pan Chen graduated from the Beijing EMG School (Top Combine’s Li Mao, Blue Bird Flying Fish, etc.). Before finally getting her break through being in the top 10 of Super Girls, Pan Chen was a flat media model and joined various talent competitions. She plays both the piano and the guitar.
Actress Fan Bingbing further proves that she is such a workaholic with two gorgeous photoshoots. See more here and here.

Jane Zhang plays both a celebrity and a normal girl in her new MV
Singer Jane Zhang recently released her MV for I believe for her new album “Believe in Jane.” The MV is the first produced by Show City Times, a Chengdu-based company that Jane started. Another MV for the album is in progress, starring Super Girls 2009 Pan Chen and actor Joseph Chang.
Jane Zhang released her new album and the first one from Universal – Believe in Jane – today. The songs range from rnb I believe, I don’t wanna pray, If this is love, to sweeter and more light hearted I do, to slow love songs Need You, This is fine, We all forsook love, and to fast beat songs Can’t do it,Hot and Deserved it, and they all sound good. Whereas Jane’s voice along pretty much held up her previous albums, this time, the songs themselves deserve attention.
The album, which you can buy on yesasia here, is definitely the number one perk for Jane. Let’s just hope the other parts – like making her universally (or at least globally) known, and allowing her to work with artists around the world will also come true.
It’s important to note, though, the lack of any epic theme songs like Only for Love or West Lake Impressions since Universal/Show City Times took over. And since it is those songs that ultimately became Jane’s biggest hits due to the quality of their production and the difficulty of the songs, it’s still hard to determine whether moving to Universal will help Jane.
This is actually singer Jane Zhang’s third time going to the Grammy’s, though it’s the first time she got to walk on the red carpet. Unfortunately, Kitaro’s Impressions West Lake, for which Jane sung the theme song, didn’t win. After the Grammy’s, she plans to stay in the US to learn dancing, and then will go to Taiwan for promotions of her new album. See more pictures at the forum here.
Jane Zhang sung her new song “I believe” live for the first time yesterday. “I believe” is her first album song to be penned by her (lyrics and maybe music?). Jane writes about her experiences since being an artist and how “I believe” came about. This song is definitely a step up from her previous non-themesong music, and I hope it’ll be representative of her album.
Once I played an unimportant role…. Suddenly, one day, everyone around me looked at me, and that made me scared… So I was always hiding. Sometimes, when there are too many eyes starring at me, to the point where I can’t see past beyond them, I would close my eyes. Too foreign a place, too many foreign faces, too many foreign paths.
On Monday, Jane Zhang and Universal Music held a press conference for their joining on the anniversary of Faye Wong’s debut. In attendance were our beautiful Jane, Eason Chan, legendary lyricist Lin Xi and Universal Music Asia VP Sam Hole.
It’s uncertain how Universal will affect Jane’s career. As of now, she has yet received any epic theme songs like she once did under Huayi. Meanwhile, her performance outfits lost their class. Hopefully, those will be temporary and Jane can find what she wants under Universal – ie. more capable composers who don’t simply write for movies but also for her album. A change that Universal is certainly pushing for is the increase of the amount of fast and powerful songs over ballads that Jane will sing. I’m not yet sure how that’ll work with Jane. She has proven to excel at both, but I think it is far easier for her to find good ballads than fast and powerful songs in Asia, which means Universal’s connections will be useful. On the movie theme side, though, it’s unlikely Jane will get as many good ones she once did under Huayi, which is known for major films and series.
Either way, getting a personal message from Mariah Carey was probably worth everything for Jane.
