Wrapped in love, Zhang Jie releases new album

Everything about singer Zhang Jie seems to be full of joy. He finally married host and fellow Chengdu’er Xie Na after seven years. The Hope School that the pair sponsored just opened this week. He will release his album the first time ever in Taiwan, and promote on a variety of Taiwanese shows, including Kangxi Laile, next month. Plus, his latest album has almost every song filled with sunshine and happiness.

Wedding-related songs include my favorite Autumn Fairytale, the Wang Leehom-composed First Lady 第一夫人, Lu Hu – composed Marry Me, as well as Lean on me 讓你依靠 , Stand Up/ 最接近天堂的地方 and Translucent Wall.

Watch the MV below for Stand Up, although I’m a lot more excited for the upcoming “First Lady” MV by Peng Youlun. Zhang Jie will  also be on Happy Camp this Saturday.

Zhang Jie and Xie Na rejoice in the music of love

When you’re in love, everything you do shows.

All three of the recently-wed Zhang Jie’s new songs are filled with expressions of joy for his and  Xie Na’s wedding. Up first is First Lady 第一夫人, a rare song that Wang Leehom, who generally only writes for female singers, wrote for him. Zhang Jie sung to Xie Na at their wedding. Two other titles are Autumn Fairytale 秋天的童话 and Closest place to heaven 最接近天堂的地方, both of whose lyrics fit perfectly the fairytale wedding the couple had in the high-altitude Qinghai-Tibetan plateau.  Which song is your favorite?

Zhang Jie and Xie Na show that two are enough for a shot of love.

This Chinese Valentines Day (七夕; Seventh Eve), singer Jason Zhang Jie and host Xie Na announced their upcoming marriage via weibo. The wedding is scheduled to be around the end of September. Coworkers and friends have sent flurries of congratulations their way, and I’m crossing my fingers for wedding pictures. More on their love story can be found here.

Zhang Jie named Best Asian Artist at Korean Awards

Following Rain last year, singer Zhang Jie was named the Best Asian Artist by Korea’s Mnet Asian Music Awards.  His performance at the awards  wow’ed many audiences, and searches for his name rose quickly on Korean search engine Naver. Despite MAMA not being more Korean than Asian, the award is a nice nod to the singer, whose well earned widespread popularity in mainland has yet to spread internationally. In addition to just finishing a concert, Zhang Jie recently released his  latest, much anticipated album, “It’s Love/这,就是爱.” You can download it on Maypay here, and after you realize how pretty it is, but it from Yesasia here. His  juniors in eeMedia,  his shimei, the multinational girlband iMe, who debuted this past summer with Aiiya was also named the best new artist,  encouraging their growth as artists.

Despite being busy with his  concert preparation, promoting his new album, and attending events like MAMA, he still managed to make time for the most important things to him, his friends.  He went to Shanghai  before heading to the Zhuhai/Macau area for MAMA, to visit his friend and shidi Yu Haoming at Ruijin Hospital waiting at the acute care center for a very long time. However, he wasn’t allowed to go into Yu Haoming’s room, and staff could only pass on his hopes for Yu Haoming to get better.

eeMedia’s #1 male artist Zhang Jie returns for his annual album with “It’s Love 这,就是爱,” a catchy song that shows off his clear, gorgeous voice. Even though it won’t be released until the 22nd, the album is already at the top of Amazon China album sales. The album’s second song, “What are women thinking?,” can be listened to by copy and pasting the following into your browser: http://xinge.baidu.com/r/song?sid=2ec0472ee75564f7420fc87ac356b682

Back to Live – Best of MTV True Live

SuperVC and Laure Shang on MTV True Live

In a world where music can be produced with computers, and singing often means lipsynching, there’s something precious about live music – especially on TV. MTV True Live is a series that I’ve really enjoyed. It has the perfect atmosphere for live music (not that it’s really live since we’re not there) – enough audiences for artists to get excited in, but not concert-like, so the artists can really feel comfortable and interact with the music and band.

Artists who have gone on include Yoga Lin & Jeno (Jade) Liu, Kay Tse & Chen Chusheng, Jane Zhang & Zhang Yadong, Zhang Jie & Tan Weiwei, Laure Shang & Super VC and Shin & Li Yuchun. Some highlights from each show, including Jane Zhang’s beautiful cover of Sting’s Fragile, cute duets between Yoga Lin and Jeno Liu, and a powerful duet by Tan Weiwei and Zhang Jie. Laure Shang and SuperVC’s episode is not on YouTube, but you can watch it on tudou here.
Extra points for figuring out what  all of the pairs have in common other than the boy-girl pairings!

2009 Beijing Pop Music Awards

fc6159afc43951c8fbed50a8

A-list Chinese pop singers and musicians gathered at the National Olympic Center on Friday night for the annual Beijing Pop Music Awards gala, one of the most influential events that honors excellence in the industry. Pop veteran Wang Leehom dominated this year’s ceremony by notching four awards, while veteran rocker Wang Feng followed with three wins. Jane Zhang won Best Female Artist for the fourth time in a row, which brought her to tears rarely seen from the singer, especially as she thought of how she missed her mom and how as a busy aspiring artist, she had few opportunities to see her and talk to her. Returning veteran Han Hong beat out Chris Li Yuchun for most popular female artist. Song Zuying, the queen of folk, made a special surprise appearance.

Winners below the cut, translation thanks to Nepheliad@ Cfensi Forums.
