Various intrigue dramas release theme songs

Three upcoming intrigue dramas, set in the Tang, Ming and Republican Era respectively, recently released theme songs. The Secret History of Wu Zetian begun airing today, Hidden Intentions and The Emperor’s Harem will air tomorrow  Which one are you most looking forward to (if at all, given the number of recent intrigue dramas)?

First up is the most lei lyrics ever for a theme from The Secret History of Wu Zetian. The chorus is actually really good, but the rest of the lyrics doesn’t even try to rhyme. This drama does seem to have the best production value, however, and stars high-esteemed actresses like Siqin Gaowa and Liu Xiaoqing as well as younger stars like Yin Tao and Zheng Shuang. My favorite line is “转眼间大明宫词已成灰” at 1:34.

New drama “Hidden Intentions” will feature plotting, vendettas, and lovesick men

Yu Zheng Workshop’s new drama ”Hidden Intentions 藏心术” brings us another intrigue drama, this time telling the tale of a switching of positions that changed the lives of two girls. Qiao Zhenyu plays a quiet, unassuming steward who secretly loves Gan Tingting’s character, a seemingly cold young lady of the Zhou family. Jiang Mengjie’s character is the third child of the Zhou family, a girl who is sweet on the surface but vindictive inside. The series lives up to its name, for each character has his or her buried secret, and many have their own agendas. The series also features Mickey He as Gan Tingting’s husband and Luo Jin as a young master of the Zhou family. One man ends up dying for his wife and her sister, the other was labeled as “lovesick” in his description.

New Dream of Red Chambers couple Yang Yang and Jiang Mengjie another wonderful photoshoot together, this time for Valentine’s Day. The two’s new drama, Melody of Youth that co-stars Leo Ku, Eva Huang and Zhou Mi and Heechul of Super Junior, is currently airing on some stations, and will be available legally on youku.com on March 10th.

Dream of the Red Chamber Cast for Sohu’s ‘New Face’ Series

The cast members of the Dream of the Red Chamber did yet another photoshoot, this time separately as part of Sohu’s “NEW FACE” series, which does mini-photoshoots and introductions to new actors. Yang Yang (pictured above) who plays older Jia Baoyu was photographed last of the four principle cast members. The photoshoots included simple objects like wands, giant heart-shaped glasses, masks and of course the Sohu fox mascot plushie lending the series a much more innocent feel than the previous Esquire “pillow fight” photoshoot.

Ladies of Dream of the Red Chamber Cover the September Issue of Esquire

Poor GQ. While it does have the likes of Chang Chen, Ethan Ruan and Han Han, it has to compete with Esquire‘s September issue, featuring the female cast of Li Shaohong’s Dream of the Red Chamber, pillow fighting. The girls in the photoshoot are Jiang Mengjie, Li Qin, Gao Yang, Li Yan, and Ma Xiaocan. After a 3 years in production, Dream of the Red Chamber finally will air this September. Whether it will be successful remains to be seen, but it’s likely that it will give the majority of its large cast, including these girls, an unparalleled boost in stardom, ushering a new wave of young actors.

Starring Leo Ku (古巨基), Dream of Red Chamber leads Jiang Mengjie ( 蒋梦婕) and Yang Yang (杨洋) and Super Junior/SJM members Heechul (金希澈) and Zhou Mi (周觅), drama “Melody of Youth” held its press conference on the 9th.

Melody tells of a group of recent college graduates and their first steps into the real world. Leading the drama is Leo Ku, an unconventional older student with a mind for business; Jiang Mengjie plays the female lead, a headstrong tomboy who earns her own livings and is a pro at video games; Heechul plays a professional video gamer who begins to woo Jiang Mengjie; Zhou Mi plays a humorous rich boy who seeks to prove himself worth more than just his parents’ money.; As for Yang Yang, cfensi forum’s shared new love after his gorgeous smile at Happy Camp appearance last week? He plays a sweet boy whose true calling lies in nail painting.

The New Dream of the Red Chamber Trailer and Photoshoot

Li Qin (Young Xue Baochai), Jiang Mengjie (Lin Daiyu), and Yang Yang (Older Jia Baoyu) in InStyle

Even though there have been many trailers already for The New Dream of the Red Chamber, the previous ones tried to only convey an moody ambiance. This new trailer actually had dialogue, and shows off the beautiful camerawork and sets. The total costs of production for the 50-episode  series reached 118 million yuan (for comparison, even the elaborate sets of  The Message cost around 50 million yuan), but the producer, sounding much more confident than in previous reports, said that the costs should be definitely recoverable.

Photoshoots for Up-And-Coming Actresses

This post has about two and a half photoshoots of up and coming actresses. Why the 1/2? Well the above of Yang Mi and Liu Shishi (from Chinese Paladin 3) was for Nv You (Girl Friend). Unfortunately the only picture of them from the magazine was the one of the cover, and I can’t even find outtakes. Too bad, but if you want to see pictures of them being girly and bffs, you should check out the post of them vacationing in Egypt with Hu Ge/Yuan Hong/others ( even if you already saw it, I added more pics)…

New Dream of the Red Chamber Cast in Versace

These photos feature the very young cast dressed in Versace for the upcoming New Dream of the Red Chamber series, for a piece called “Dreams in Versace” featured in iLook magazine. Those especially invited to participate in this photoshoot were Yang Yang (18 yrs)  as Older Baoyu, Yu Xiaotong as Younger Baoyu (14),  Li Qin as Young Baochai (18), Bai Bing as Older Baochai (22), and Jiang Mengjie as Lin Daiyu (19). Also in this photoshoot are Zhang Di as Jia Yingchun and Kang Qinzi as She Yue. In blue on the bottom is Yang Mi as Qing Wen, Baoyu’s servant.  Below the cut are  thumbnails from the rest of this shoot and some of my favorites.
