The MV for newcomer Jiang Yingrong‘s Bad Angel, a catchy electro-pop song that’s the main plug to her album of the same name  was released today. Last year Jiang Yingrong  won the 2009 Supergirls contest with the strength and diversity she showed in her singing,  and since then she has been heavily promoted by eeMedia, including a trip to America to train.

The album Bad Angel is produced by Golden Melody Best Producer Aadia who worked with A-Mei and most recently produced for Jane Zhang and Han Geng’s albums. It consists of a total of ten tracks. Another catchy dance track from the album, will be performed by Yingrong at the much anticipated Superboys finale this Friday with her not-yet debuted Shi Di, boygroup 8090. The album will also be released on the same day, the Sept 10th. Two other MVs for songs in the album already released can be found below the cut.

Top Combine starts the year with pink

eeMedia releases their New Year calendar with all of its major artists. Including Top Combine, Li Yuchun, Meteor Shower cast, Jiang Yingrong, Tan Weiwei, and other Super Girls and Boys. This is the first year that eeMedia has released a family calendar, shot during the same time as their awesome family MV this year. Signs of eeMedia finally being organized under Long Danni? Definitely.

Rest of the calendar under the cut. Please, will someone put this up in the forum? (more…)

Ethnic minorities in Chinese entertainment

Does she look Chinese to you?

One of the most frustrating things about introducing new Chinese artists are the “they don’t look Chinese” comments. Considering China has 56 official ethnicities with their ancestral homes in China, and who knows how many unofficial ones, and 1.3 billion people, it’s unfair to homogenize any part of China (or of the world ). And according to wikipedia, minority populations are rising at 7 times the rate of the Han Chinese because the One Child Policy only applies to Han Chinese (no, China is not trying to eliminate its minorities via One Child).

Photographer Chen Haiwen recently paid a tribute to the diversity of China by producing a series of photos that captured this diversity. Along with a team of photographers, he traveled across China for a year to take photos of a family from each ethnic group. Those, along with thousands of other photos captured on the trip, were put on display in Beijing’s WangFuJing Street last month. zhouzhzh on youtube has a slideshow of all the photos.

Here’s a spot light on some, definitely not all, minority Chinese artists in pop culture.

Xue Zhiqian Reveals New Song For…Chinese Chess? + Other Performances

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d76qF4pH-xU]

Xue Zhiqian sang his new song, “Chu He Han Jie” (not on his recently released compilation album) , which apparently is the themesong to… the end of the year Chinese Chess tournament in Shanghai.  Poor Xue Zhiqian. Why does Universal suck so much at finding promotional opportunities for you? Composed by Xue Zhiqian, and lyrics cowritten by him and the charmain of the chess organization. I really hope Xue Zhiqian goes back and edits the song, because his lyrics are usually better.

Going backwards from 2009, the the first 2009 Super Girl to release a MV was top 60 Luo Zhenhuan for her new EP. Zeng Yike will be the first to release her new album. See her album cover (with a sheep!) here. Meanwhile, Jiang Yingrong sings the new theme for Maybelline. You can hear the recorded version here, or you can watch the much superior live version:

Super Girl photobooks, part II

Ôøéó¿É

Anyone else see the Vanessa Hudgens resemblance in this photoshoot?

The rest of the Super Girl photobooks (Huang Ying, Jiang Yingrong and Pan Chen) have been released. Of the three, I could only find the cover of Pan Chen’s photobook. Overall, I was a bit unsatisfied with the photoshoots. Though very pretty, they didn’t really show the personality appeals of the girls – Huang Ying’s simple, childlike cuteness and Jiang Yingrong’s infectious happiness sprinkled with sexiness.

Also, I think the Vanessa Hudgens -ness is a sign that Hunan TV should do more musicals, though with people who can actually sing. (more…)

Jiang Yingrong sings Beat the Mic Themesong

October 2, 2009 | Posted in Mainland China,Music, Tagged ,

I don’t have much time to make a real post, but here’s a have a fun song for the weekend and relax. Even though the lyrics about someone who doesn’t sing well wanting to sing anyway don’t fit Jiang Yingrong very well, they fit me perfectly, and I’ve been singing along to this quite often this week, especially the parts that are Peking Opera influenced, and yes, there was some air erhu playing.

The song was by composed and written by Lu Hu. <3 Lyrics below in Chinese . I wish I had the time to translate them because they are awesome. Nepheliad translated them below in the comments! Yay!
