In lieu of a second album, BOBO has been giving us photoshoots, which is nice for the time being, especially if they are cute as this. They pose with various plushies, which evoke thoughts of childhood, and we thought it would be a good time to translate one of the blog entries that is representative of of Jing Boran’s dislike of fame and struggles with what it means to grown up and be responsible. He always smiles and does a great job with whatever’s given to him when the camera is on, but he’s pensive off camera and sometimes says these thoughts in interviews or his blog. Fu Xinbo doesn’t say much to the public, but Jing Boran says they say a lot to each other off camera, and it’s nice that they do have each other for talking about things like this.

Jing Boran’s blog entry about growing up and dealing with the fame that is now an inescapable part of his life:
- translated by idarklight,

Once upon a time
when a boy was 18, he received a pair of wings
the boy wanted to become an angel
so without any doubts nor directions, he flew toward the sky
slowly
he flew higher and further
but he doesn’t yet know
the moment he flew up
he could never return

the lives of 18-year-old children are beautiful
they can do many things
can sweetly go shopping with their girlfriends
can play video games with best friends
can laugh loudly when they’re happy
can cry loudly when they’re sad
when they’re rebellious family and friends will understand them
they’re free
But that boy, could only be in the endless sky,
flying with all his strength, flapping his wings
as they slowly blur the true happiness and life of an 18-year-old

Stills from A Tribute to Stephen Chow

u2184p28t3d2285759f326dt20081208171248

This is satirical series which involves a series of homages to Stephen Chow movies, and revolves around the character of “Xiao Qiao” played by Jing Boran, in his acting debut. Eva Huang Shengyi, whose company is backing this series will be making an appearance as well, despite having been at odds with Stephen Chow over her contract to appear in more Kung Fu Hustle films in the boring role of the lollipop girl. When asked by media about this she said this wasn’t a big deal, and was doing it as a favor to her company.

More pictures below, including one of her and her manager/sometimes actor, Yang Zi (who paid her way out of that contract) in a familiar position, but mostly of Jing Boran, the younger one in singing duo BoBo, which incidentally won best mainland group at the “Wind and Cloud” newcomer awards. Expect a fairly detailed post on that particular awards ceremony once better videos come out.

We’re all big BoBo fans here at CFensi, and when I say we, I mean me and idarklight, who’s pretty much the only other person who has contributed to posts at this site. So this series caught our attention because it’s the first time Fu Xinbo, the older one in BoBo has been in a drama, and as you can see from the still, he’ll be playing the “villain”.

However this series would probably be worth watching just because it’s script was written by Ning Caishen, who was behind My Own Swordsman/Wu Lin Wai Zhuan / 武林外传 which was a extremely well-written parody of Wuxia that has a huge cult following in China despite its extremely low-budget and virtually unknown cast. You can watch the full I am Veeker series here which is going to be airing completely online at ku6.com in lieu of on television, at a total of 6-7 episodes of about 25 min each, since as it appears, the internet is the future for money-making in China. Keep in mind that this is a comedy and it is very much tongue-in-cheek. Especially when it pokes fun of Sanlu milk powder. :D

A trailer, interview with Fu Xinbo, and BoBo fuzzy moments etc after the cut. A big thanks to idarklight for the heads up about this, and for writing the bulk of this post. If she wrote it, you know it’s better quality than most of the drivel that I post.

Chinese Celebrities When They Were Young

I said I would do a special fun post in exchange for someone making my banner when site hit 10,000. Well, here it is as promised, although nobody ever made me a banner. :( This is still incomplete…I don’t have a few people in here, and I wanted to put an after pic of everyone, but I got way too tired of that so I only put some for some people I didn’t think people would know (like all the mainland guys apparently), but eventually I will update this and make it the most comprehensive Chinese celeb baby picture list ever.

Love or hate her, you’ve got to admit Liu Yifei was one of the most adorable children ever.

More of cute adorable children behind the cut. I think it’s really rare for Chinese people to do plastic surgery (as of now) so this won’t be one of those “spot the differences” posts. This took a lot of time and effort to put together, so PLEASE DO NOT COPY AND POST ANYWHERE ELSE, w/o permission.

BOBO filming a CF in South Korea

October 23, 2008 | Posted in Commercials,Mainland China, Tagged , ,

The financial crisis has struck many parts of the globe but BOBO has not been affected too greatly it seems, and were sent to South Korea to film an advertisement for a well know cell phone brand. This shoot cost over 3 million already, not including living expenses for the cast and crew involved. (Article does not say whether in won or RMB)

BOBO goes old school with Lin Hao

I thought I should have a BOBO post since they are the current header for the site, which was simply because they were the only ones of whom I had a large enough pic to make the header with. They are a singing duo whose name comes from the similar-sounding words in their names, Fu Xinbo and Jing Boran.

Despite that unfortunate moniker I like them, because they can actually sing well and are fun to watch. This is their newest MV, for a remake of an old song, Big China. It’s not on any of their albums and think it’s just a promotional video. Usually I find them pretty cute but when Lin Hao, 9-year old Earthquake survivor and Olympic mini-flag bearer, is in the MV, there’s really no competition. He’s there in the beginning and end, bald patch and all.

They also sang their song “Guang Rong” at the end (or should I say after?) of the Paralympics opening ceremony, though that was not televised live. You can hear it being sung however, at the video found at universalsports.com
