China’s Film Stars are spread out all over Asia! I decided to do a quick photo post to locate all of them…first is Pusan, because not that many Chinese people that went, and also it came first chronologically, so it’s easier to just get it out of the way.
Stars Help HOTSPOT celebrate its 2nd Anniversary
This was from maybe two weeks ago actually… I just haven’t had time to post it until now. While most news portals’ main attraction at this event was Yu Xiaowei ‘s appearance so they could ask him questions about his relationship with Gao Yuanyuan (which has received even more interest now after Xia Yu and Yuan Quan’s marriage), I just wanted to celebrate HOTSPOT, because despite it only having existed for two years and it only being a biweekly magazine, I’ve already grown to love it in contrast to Vogue or Elle in China.
Men's Uno's Sexy Couple: Zhang Yuqi and Zhang Junning
Men’s Uno’s second couple photoshoot. These two could be considered two of the hottest rising actors in China, and with two of the most perfect set of looks. Kitty Zhang Yuqi, discovered by Stephen Chow for CJ7 while Zhang Junning, was discovered by drama scriptwiter/director Hai Yan. Both men have midas touches when it comes to make an actress and actor respectively, famous. Together the two are paired in the desert heat to interpret a passionate love, and continue that interpretation in the Versace hotel in Australia.
The 12th Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) Opens

Cast of Sophie's Revenge working the red carpet.
This is one of the two A-List film festivals in Asia, the other being Tokyo. Despite starting late (1993), organizers have been working hard to make this as prestigious as possible, a subjective measure, and it does seem to be a step up from last year with Danny Boyle heading the jury, and various other stars walking the red carpet. I’m sure you’ve seen a lot of these pictures already, sorry for the lateness! I’ll post on the SIFF again later.
Kitty Zhang Yuqi Photoshoot
Another Kitty Zhang Yuqi photoshoot presumably for promotion for Not All Women Are Bad (All About Women). I don’t really mind since she hasn’t slimmed down for any of the press conferences of this movie, like she did with CJ7, despite being dragged into endless photo-ops where she needs to stand next to the two other stars of the movie Zhou Xun, and Guey Lun-mei who are both like the definition of petite. It’s also nice that’s she eating a lot in these pictures. Kudos to her for that.
There’s also a nice photoshoot for Stephanie Sun for “Nu You” Magazine but the pictures are not good quality, just a photo of the magazine that it’s in. If I see a better quality version of them, I’ll post those as well.
Tsui Hark and Zhang Yuqi attend Joe Cheng's Play

I apologize up front for calling Design for Living Joe Cheng’s play, but he is probably the draw for a lot of people, and probably the person most people know, at least for those who come to this site. For the famous people in attendance however, the big draw was mostly Sylvia Chang, a veteran director in Taiwan. The director and one of the lead actresses of “Not All Women are Bad” were spotted attending the play Design for Living in Beijing. Taiwanese music mogul Jonathan Lee (Fusion’s management), and Chinese sixth generation director Tian Zhuangzhuang were also in attendance.
New Kitty Zhang Yuqi Photoshoots: Guess Jeans and Hotspot
I expected these pictures to show up on CRIEnglish, due to the tags, but they haven’t and I imagine that is because Zhang Yuqi is not a big star…yet. Stephen Chow knows how to propel girls to stardom despite only giving them shallow vase roles, and after getting that coveted shallow vase role in CJ7, Kitty seems to be doing well in the HK film world, getting to act alongside two experienced female actresses for her upcoming film and she recently shot a series of ads for Guess Jeans’ fall winter line, showing her at her daily routine, including interviewing, photoshoots, and walking the red carpet. More below the cut.
Thank you to Bluelily for the making my header!
She was nice enough to make me many, many headers (and alert me to the existence of something called my spam box), and so this is a thank you post for doing all of that. This header features the cast of the movie All About Women, which used to be called Not All Women Are Bad, a much a cooler title in my opinion, and it is probably the movie I am looking forward to the most for the rest of 2008 because it seems like a throwback to the old classic Hong Kong comedies that were so great once.
It also represents this site well I think, with its three leads from the mainland, Taiwan, and HK (Kitty Zhang Yuqi is actually from Shandong, China but she got famous in HK because Stephen Chow can basically make anyone famous) who like to coordinate what they wear for their promotional events. Considering the fact that I think Zhou Xun is probably the best actress of her generation in China, and that Guey Lun-mei is perhaps the best of hes in Taiwan, this should be at least worth watching just for that, although the movie Blood Brothers had the best young actors from China, Taiwan and HK and that wasn’t very good. But that was men, and this is the women.
Wentworth Miller in Shanghai
I tried to ignore this since it’s not Chinese news but he’s been on Sina’s entertainment front page now three times in a row, once for arriving, once because Wang Leehom arrived at the same time, without much commotion, and was reportedly embarrassed when he realized all the media gathered weren’t there for him, and now because Miller’s doing a bit of modeling in Shanghai. I think very few people would cause the commotion that Wentworth Miller does in China, since Prison Break is China’s most popular foreign drama, and he looks like he’s enjoying every minute of it. He is in Shanghai for three days to promote Me and City Fashion, and then it’s off to Beijing.
