Two new films to share the Feast of Hong Gate

Character posters for the upcoming film White Vengeance, starring Leon Lai, Zhang Hanyun and Liu Yifei.

“I want to show why a freedom fighter would turn to out to be another dictator,” said Lu Chuan of his new film The Last Supper. “I chose the title, Wang De Sheng Yan, in Chinese, because I want to say something about betrayal. It’s not only betrayal of one friend. It’s also one man’s betrayal of his own original dream for his desires.

Both the Last Supper and White Vengeance will be focused on the intriguing tale of the Feast at Hong Gate, a term that now signifies betrayal and treachery hidden in festivity. The tale details the falling out of Liu Bang and Xiang Yu, two rebels who united to defeat the Qin Emperor, and the two’s struggle to become the next emperor. This is interluded with two of the most famous woman in Chinese history, the brilliantly cold Lv Empress and the tragically loyal beauty Yu Ji.

The Last Supper will star Liu Ye, Daniel Wu, Chang Chen, Qin Lan and Yang Mi while  White Vengeance goes for a mature cast, with Zhang Hanyun, Huang Qiusheng, Leon Lai and Liu Yifei.

I want to show something to the audience that they can believe. … We spent a lot of money to show the real picture, that everything was so rough. People were chasing their dreams in green fields and forests and running for the goals in their heart. It was an age of life and energy and an age of freedom, actually,” Lu Chuan said in his usual eloquence to Hollywood Reporter.

Casting trailer for White Vengeance below (in English, too!).  Which film do you think will be better? Although I really like Liu Yifei and dislike Lu Chuan, my bet is on Lu Chuan, who, despite the lack of moralities, is an amazing story teller.

In addition

In addition to lead males like Liu Ye, Miss World 2007 Zhang Zilin plays the only female role in her film debut "He-man."

In the upcoming comedy “He-Man/硬汉2″, Liu Ye plays an ex-soldier who, despite some mental problems, is fierce about anyone he perceives as doing wrong, which means punishing anyone who smokes in public. In the film, people caught smoking by him has been forced to eat the cigarette butts and sometimes even the box itself.

Not only is the script fighting smoking in the film, director Ding Sheng is also strict about any harms to the environment in real life. “The filming place is Qingdao, which is my home. The number one rule in our production team is no harming the environment,” Ding Sheng said. After one member of the production team threw a cigarette butt into the ocean, Ding Sheng made him to go into the ocean to pick out the cigarette butt.

Mermaid Kingdom begins filming; China dives into fantasy films?

Drawings for Mermaid Kingdom on imdb

The long rumored “Mermaid Kingdom” (official : Empires of the Deep) is said to have recently begun filming. The Huayi (?) co-production will feature Monica Belluci, Liu Ye, Hu Jun and Yu Na and tells the tale of a young man stumbling upon a kingdom under the sea. According to sohu, special effects creation for it begun three years ago.

This isn’t the only large-scale fantasy film to be made in 2010. Shengshi‘s adaptation of online novel “Xing Chen Bian/星辰变/Change of Fate” and an adaptation of Guo Jingming’s novel “Ice Fantasy “ are both major upcoming films that will require tons of special effects. The first is set in a videogame like world that involves fighting against hordes of magical animals, having a best friend bird that can eat up lightning, and going to a heavenlike place in an alternate universe. “Ice Fantasy” stars the prince of the Ice Kingdom. His wife is a mermaid, and members of his entourage include a Guzheng player who creates illusions by playing music.

Men’s Uno is bringing out all the stops today to provide us with great photoshoots. Liu Ye and Wang Luodan, both having made a solid name for themselves with their acting are paired to show an interpretation of love in a French town. With the paved roads, quaint gardens, and old churches, and the sunlight reflecting off them, it shows a quaint, almost stoic love of many years ago.

These are really too cute. It’s a simple photoshoot, unlike the usual extravagant, by the beach, costumed shots. And they both seem like really low-key people, so it’s fitting, and  it shows off their happiness well. I believe they’re heading to France next for their French wedding.

Can you spot Nanking! Nanking! director and best man Lu Chuan in this picture?

One of the first articles that I posted on this site was actor Liu Ye stating that he and his girlfriend,  Anais Martane  would marry, “soon”, and that they would do it in both a traditional French and Chinese style . Well nearly a year later, Liu Ye has kept that promise, and pictures from the ceremonies (both of them) show the bride and groom as happy as can be.

News Roundup 6/8/09 – 6/19/09

We’re going to start a news roundup of all the little bits of news that we don’t have the energy, time, or motivation to make full posts on. I wanted to start one before, but my inherent laziness made it seem like a project doomed to failure; We’re going to try again anyway because now we’re finding it harder to have the energy to make those full posts.

These links were found mostly by idarklight ….which is how it usually goes on behind the scenes of Cfensi. Except for the obvious parts by me, like where I start to whine about lack of Wang Yuexin activities again. WYX…you’re turning me into a whiner.

Huang Yali‘s first MV under Taiwanese company Linfair is out. The former Super Girl is one of the latest to benefit from the lifted restrictions on mainland artists in Taiwan.

Also releasing albums recently: Gary Cao, Peggy Hsu, Phoenix Legend, Tan Weiwei, Jerry Yan, and Lollipop. And maybe some artists I’ve forgotten (Don’t hate me!). I’ve linked to youtube accounts where you can listen to the album for some artists.

Fan Bingbing recently graced the cover of ELLE magazine, who labeled 2009 as the “Year of Fan Bingbing Movies”, a very apt description. Fan Bingbing starred or will be starring in 7 movies: Shinjuku Incident, Sophie’s Revenge, Wheat, Bodyguards and Assassins, East Wind. Rain, Future Cops and an unnamed one. She’ll also be starring her own production, the drama ,The Last Night of Madame Chin.

We’re including in this post as well, several other photoshoots that we found pretty, but were too lazy to make their own separate posts for. There’s He Zhuoyan who idarklight likes, from the upcoming HSDS adaptation, Sun Feifei, a tv actress who most people seem to like, and Ma Tianyu who we’re curious to see act and pass judgement on. And then there’s Zhang Ziyi, and the director/cast for Nanking! Nanking! who we thank for already giving us ample to  pass judgement on.
