Milk@Coffee Go Searching

Milk@Coffee on a quest to go searching for what really matters.

“Listen, to the hints of the sky
Leave, the coldness of the city
Step on soaring trains and disappear.

Leave, the control of the dark night
Forget, the name I once had
Now, give up everything to search for my dying soul.”

After complaining of the busy schedules of urban life in their popular “No Time,” Milk@Coffee urges people to abandon their business to search for what’s really important in their MV for their upcoming album “Go Searching.” Another hit from the duo?

Milk@Coffee releases new single “Go Search”

Milk@Coffee urges you to go in search of your dreams, preferably via horseback.

After their megahit and ,more importantly, my alarm ring tone No Time 没时间, Milk@Coffee returns with their new “fantasy techno” single Go Search 去寻找, the title song for their first album under Huayi Music. Like their previous “Show you some color” EP, Milk@Coffee again aims to speak to the hearts of the increasing busy and lost urban population. While No Time questions the rapid speed of our lives, Go Search urges everyone to not be caught up in the daily mundane tasks and instead to seek their dreams.

Milk@Coffee, the formerly indie duo who signed with major label Hua Yi, last month, just released their second single from their new EP Give You a Little Color. Like the title indicates, the three-song EP wants to give those in the cities and metropolis, a little color. Each song on the EP has a different style and touches on a different aspect of life.  In their MV for ‘Good Morning’, the duo pretended to work at a fast food chain, giving them the opportunity to greet everyone rushing towards different destinations with a smile. The first single was “No Time” encouraging those with busy lives. Both singles have done extremely well, and have become popular ringtones.

Indie Duo Milk@Coffee Tops Charts with New Song “No Time”

Popular indie duo Milk@Coffee recently released a new single with simple lyrics, but ones that everyone can  relate to. The begins with a minute of various celebrities saying what they lack time for.  “I am __” they say, “I have no time for ____”.  These neglected activities include listening to music, dating, losing weight, studying abroad, visiting relatives,  having kids, and so many other commonplace ones that every listener should hear one they too pushed back at one point. The spoken introduction ends abruptly with Laure Shang, indeed busy composing and releasing her own singles saying: “My name is Shang Wenjie. I have no time to record whatever this is for you”.

The actual song’s  catchy chorus sums up the sentiment behind the song: “I have no time. I have no time. I really have no time”. But  it also offers optimistically in the end “I have to ask myself, shouldn’t I be stronger/ persevere?”

The MV:

An anthem for this era, the single reached the top 3 of famous music site SoSo after only a week o frelease, just behind Wang Leehom.*  Kiki, the singer in the duo said she was very glad, and appreciative that people were paying attention to their return to music.

Since their new single was released by Hua Yi,  features many Hua Yi artists in the intro, and has a green flavoured MV (Hua Yi is known for its environmentalism), it’s possible that the duo is in fact, no longer indie, but has been signed by this major label. Milk@Coffe’s album will be out in September.

*Congrats Leehom! Love in Disguise became the highest-grossing Chinese-language film by a first-time director.

One of my favorite Taiwanese indie bands 1976 released  their new album “Manic Pixie Dream Girl” today. I haven’t listened to it yet, but considering I’m usually the late one on the block with indie news I thought I would seize the moment, in keeping with their theme of, in this fast-paced world of today, emphasizing the moments as we travel through time  rather than trying to reach a particular destination .  You can listen to the 10 tracks from the album here. Buy it at yesasia here.

Milk@Coffee Gets Seven Nominations on Beijing Pop Music List

December 13, 2008 | Posted in Indie/Rock,Mainland China,Music, Tagged

In the recently unveiled Chinese Music List 2008 Beijing Pop Music ceremony nomination list, new popular group Milk@Coffee, got seven nominations with their album “The Older the Lonelier”. They were not the only ones to get seven nominations, but they’re a bit more indie than the rest who did, so it’s fairly impressive. I feel like Chinese indie is becoming mainstream, which simply means it’s getting more noticed and more money, which is great. 80534ec482412462d18652f3c79d7551 (more…)
