The top 10 of the 2009 Super Girls recently got together, with each of them writing a weibo message with one character and their group picture, with the characters combining to say “We will always be together like this.”

This is not the first time they’ve done this.  Earlier this year, they had a get together and  were able to get seven of them together to make “We will always be together.”  2005 girls may be the most talented, but the 2007 boys and 2009  wins out in cuteness and friendship.

Super Boys duet with Super Girls in the fourth round, 2009 Super Girls return to stage in the sixth round

August 18, 2011 | Posted in Music,Television, Tagged , ,

In honor of the Seventh Festival (Chinese Valentines Day) the fourth round of this year’s Super Girls 快乐女声 competition paired  nine Super Boys with the nine Super Girl finalists. Among the resulting duets was Duan Linxi (SG) and Tan Jiexi (SB)’s creative “Your Call 你的电话”, complete with guitars. Li Sidanni (SG) and Li Mao (SB)’s “Music Wave 音浪” featured passionate dancing and caused a commotion in the audience. Hong Chen (SG) and Wang Yuexin (SB) sang a rock song, “So What”, while Fu Mengni (SG) and Wu Yi (SB) stuck to the love theme and performed the ending song to drama “Fated to Love You”. Coincidentally, Su Miaoling (SG) and Chen Xiang (SB) also sang a theme song, theirs being “Meeting 遇见”. The other duets featured Yang Yang with Zhang Yuan, Yu Jiali with Wang Ye, Wang Yijie with Ji Jie, and Liu Xin with Li Wei. Links to the performances can be found here. Pictures can be found below the cut.

The sixth round of Super Girls will be held on the 19th. This time, instead of Super Boys, theremaining finalists will be matched with some shi jies from 2009. Wait for this week’s episode to see Zeng Yike, Liu Xijun, Jiang Yingrong, Pan Chen, Yu Kewei, Li Xiaoyun, and Huang Ying return to Super Girl’s stage.

Super Boy Chen Xiang Featured on Sohu

Chen Xiang

Looking ahead to his glorious future

He has 552,653 fans on his weibo — and counting. His song “Yan Huo” on the Super Boys 2010 compilation album, My Stage, has been listened to more than 13 billion times. And he seems to be loved by all, in a similar way to how people loved Khalil Fong two years ago. He may have placed fifth in Super Boys, but that hasn’t stopped Chen Xiang from becoming the biggest surprise of this year’s competition.

People say he’s like a little orange: clean, pure, quiet, emitting a fresh and clean fragrance. (His name on his weibo is “陈翔橙” — “Chen Xiang Orange.”) Under the lens of the camera, his quietness makes him seem like a little prince who somehow wandered out of a children’s fairy tale. He has an elegant face, an expression like Lee Jun-ki’s, and a naturally clean and warm voice.

Every year we wait for a newbie to suddenly emerge like Jay Chou did in 2001. But right now, this generation is not one conducive to making stars that the entire country idolizes. More and more people are starting to care less if a person came from a competition, and are starting to care more about a star’s potential in the future. And as far as the future is concerned, Chen Xiang’s starting point may be higher than the other Super Boys’: with his clean voice and elegant looks, singing and acting are both viable options for him.

See him in action with Super Girl Yu Kewei — acting in a short clip and then singing in a duet. Sohu photoshoot plus a bonus .gif behind the cut:

Super Girl photobooks, part II

Ôøéó¿É

Anyone else see the Vanessa Hudgens resemblance in this photoshoot?

The rest of the Super Girl photobooks (Huang Ying, Jiang Yingrong and Pan Chen) have been released. Of the three, I could only find the cover of Pan Chen’s photobook. Overall, I was a bit unsatisfied with the photoshoots. Though very pretty, they didn’t really show the personality appeals of the girls – Huang Ying’s simple, childlike cuteness and Jiang Yingrong’s infectious happiness sprinkled with sexiness.

Also, I think the Vanessa Hudgens -ness is a sign that Hunan TV should do more musicals, though with people who can actually sing. (more…)

The top 10 Super Girls are all releasing their own mini(?)-photobooks. Looking through these pictures, which are far not too artistic but captures the girls in their natural prettieness, it is not hard to realize how bad Elle must be to make the girls look anything less than gorgeous.

The first batch of pictures released are  that of Li Xiaoyun, Liu Xijun, Yu Kewei, Zeng Yike, Pan Hongyue and Li Yuanxi.

Meteor Shower and Super Girls succeed together

Climbing up the ladders of success

Climbing up the ladders of success

High ratings, ton of eye candy, adorable theme and an exciting scriptwriter made both Meteor Shower and Super Girls a success this year.

Both reached about the rating of 3.0 (over 60 million viewers) at their latest, and both have had an upward slope of viewership. Meteor Showers peaked at about 3.1, and Super GIrls had 3.46 last week (70+million). And that’s not counting the number of people who watched it through other devices (Super Girls last week had over 100 million users watching it on PPLive)

When revisiting this summer, Chen Chusheng’s lyrics come to mind – “this winter(summer) did not bring me any surprises.” There were small things along the way that were unexpected, but for the most part, GBS (Golden Eagle Broadcasting System, aka the Hunan Broadcasting Company that owns eeMedia and Hunan TV) delivered to the best of their abilities. There were no breakthroughs, only GBS doing its best. (more…)

Most dramatic series of the year goes to…

..Super Girls?

elle2 panhongyue

Pan Hongyue may seem pompous, but she has our respect for not hiding her disgust at the judges after the 15to10 competition.

Meteor Shower seems to have already lost the dramatic category before it even started. Super Girls’ scriptwriters are probably way better. What other drama has the music, the dancing, the pretty girls, the tears, the triumphs, the unsung heroes, the evil henchmen, and of course, the righteous Judge Bao (somebody on baidu tried to link his heritage to Judge Bao Qingtian) like Super Girls?

Friday’s Super Girls’s defining moment was Bao Xiaobo’s comments after Li Xiaoyun played the guitar for her song:

Li Xiaoyun, you know, on this stage, playing the guitar on this stage is very dangerous. But I want to thank you for reminding me of someone. Her name is Wang Zhixin, and she once sung a song called Match Heaven. I once said her music striked straight into the heart. I want to thank her and thank you.

I cried the moment he mentioned Wang Zhixin. But wow, if last week’s comment about “protective forces” wasn’t direct enough, this week’s comment about the guitar is way too obvious. (He’s hinting at the fact that Wang Zhixin got kicked out so she wouldn’t compete with Zeng Yike as the guitars).

The person who took the heat of the blame for making anyone but Zeng Yike playing the guitar being in danger is the outspoken Gao Xiaosong, who we first became familiar with after he told HIT-5 their song was “outdated” and that “mainland music wasn’t pure because they don’t have enough coastal lines.” It turns out that MT-muzik, the songwriters behind HIT-5′s “Say U love me again” and “I want you to know” actually wrote a song in response to him, titled “Hello, Gao Xiaosong.” It’s well-written, if unpolished.

Super Girls, Elle photoshoot, and the first battle.

elle group

elle group2super girls dolls

This week’s Super  Girls news include the release of their MV, free MP3 downloads of the girl’s songs, some studio recorded and other live,  and the first of their weekly Elle photoshoot.

The competition:

Forget about the happy, the female and the voice. This is war, and judge Bao Xiaobo is one against many.

After walking out last time because he disapproved of Zeng Yike’s admittance into the top 20, Bao Xiaobo returns, vowing to help the other 9 girls left . He begins the contest by saying that he wants “voices with confidence, voices that doesn’t waiver, and voices that aren’t off key.” Yikes for Yike.

EE Media goes on MV rage

kiss

no, you did not accidentally venture into a forbidden website. This was too awstrucking to not put up.

Along with H4&Xun, Xu Fei also went to Changsha to advertise for Meteor Shower, including the fanmeeting and  Happy Camp. She sings the ending theme song, which will be her upcoming EP. Watch it here. Also recently released are Zhang Jie’s MV for “Overheard” , Yu Haoming and Zheng Shuang’s Meteor Shower/Qing Hua Tong Fang iMini MV, and part of the Super Girls 2009 MV. The first has a good song and a good MV; the second has a cute MV, a sweet song, but unfit voices;  the third had everything except someone who could mix the girl’s voices together.
