Vae

Although he's finally appearing in his own MV's, Vae still plays backdrop to his music and stories.

After years of being Indie,Vae has finally signed with a musical label. That hasn’t stopped him from making unconventional songs, however.  Almost none of his songs in the upcoming were about love, but instead reflects realistic life. Other than his title song, two more MV’s have been released, each with its own quirk and message.

In Demolition of the East wall 拆東牆, Vae sings of a Ming dynasty restaurant owner whose home was expropriated by the government. The clever and satirical lyrics, the zhongguofeng-style song, and the realistic style of the MV perfects the tale. The story reflects an increasing conflict between the choice of new developments and preservation of old dwellings. Watch the MV below.

Meanwhile, in a less comprehendable MV, Great mountains and rivers 河山大好 praises the beauty of the outdoors. The song tells you to stop staying home all day and take your parents on a trip to visit the beautiful mountains and historical cities of China. Watch the MV for it here.

After one year of hibernation, Jacky Xue Zhiqian released a new single for White Day, titled “I Finally Became Another Person’s Woman” (我终于成了别人的女人). The MV, which was filmed in Japan, was directed by Jennifer, Jay Chou’s main director. You can watch it here, thanks to fountainpark723.

After releasing an MV earlier this month, Vae released his third album, titled Su Ge La Mei You Di (苏格拉没有底).

After two albums and many fame, Vae finally joins a recording company

Despite having neither a recording company nor promotions, singer-composer-producer-medical student Vae has achieved high popularity for both himself and his songs in his first two albums. For the first time ever, Vae appears in the MV for his third album, the first of his to be released by a recording label.

He joins artists like JJ Lin and Kym Jin Sha in recording label Ocean Disk for his newest album, Socrates has no end 蘇格拉沒有底. This also explains why Vae wrote two songs for Jin Sha’s lastest album, including Your Mouth 你的嘴 and Missing 相思垢.

Vae is someone whose pictures I had seen before I heard his voice, but apparently he was more than just a amateur net idol. He’s a polymath, someone who excels at many things. He was one of the top ten students in Anhui province, and graduated from Anhui Medical School. He also dabbled in writing and web graphics, publishing more than 20 articles in periodicals and winning an award for the later in Anhui. On top of all that, he’s somehow been a prolific songwriter as well, who does all the composing, lyrics, arranging, recording, mixing, etc for his songs.

On January 10th his first real “debut” album is supposed to be released (it’s been leaked though). The presale order for this reached 10,000 through orders on his website.
