Yan Kuan takes on the role of General Huo Qubing with a fluorescent flair

The development of popular online games in recent years has been accompanied by a rise of celebrity representatives for the genre, with Yan Kuan as one of the newer entrants. Previously, Ady An Yixuan did work for “Demigods and Semi-devils 2″, succeeded by musician Vae  for “Demigods and Semi-devils 3″. Liu Yifei has promoted the web game for “Chinese Ghost Story“, Yang Mi is the spokesperson for “Tianxia 3″. Yan Kuan and his real life girlfriend, Du Ruoxi, will be playing a couple in a mini-film for the web game “Han Wu Da Di (Great Emperor Wu of Han)”. More pictures of Yan Kuan can be seen here – both he and Du Ruoxi will sport bows.

Qing Shi Huang Fei releases first trailer

Ruby Lin is set on reviving her kingdom in Qing Shi Huang Fei.

The first production by Ruby Lin, Qing Shi Huang Fei 倾世皇妃, released its first trailer today . Although I’m not a fan of the book, the trailer looks really good, with pretty costumes and setting as well as eyecandy from the handsome Yan Kuan, Wallace Huo and Mao Zijun.

The drama is set to air on Hunan TV later this year. Trailer below thanks to lalalaiTzME@YouTube

Feng Shaofeng and Yang Mi Star in Scriptwriter Yu Zheng’s Followup to “Schemes of a Beauty”

Did you know there's an arrow in your hair Qingchuan? Let me get that for you.

Famous drama screenwriter Yu Zheng, fresh off the success of his latest series Schemes of a Beauty/Mei Ren Xin Ji unveiled the cast of his newest drama, called Gong this past July, and using some of the same actors and actresses from Schemes, with Yang Mi as the female lead this time, and Feng Shaofeng (only a cameo in Schemes) as the male one. The story revolves around time traveling to the Qing Dynasty (a popular theme in Chinese literature). Yang Mi’s character, Luo Qingchuan gets transported to the time of Kang Xi, and realizing this, tries to get on the good side of the 4th son (Mickey He) since according to history he wins the throne, and the rest of the brothers…don’t. However, the playful and mischievous 8th brother (Feng) both pulls pranks and falls in love with Qingchuan, and vice versa, complicating matters and Qingchuan’s plans.

Yesterday, new stills were releasing, showing the playful, antagonistic early side of their relationship, which you can see below the cut. The drama also boasts an extremely large budget, with some pieces of jewelry alone costing tens of thousands of yuan.

A/N: Yan Kuan will be guest starring in this series again, briefly appearing like he did in Schemes of a Beauty, as a “modern day person”. Can you give your old friend the lead Yu Zheng? Thanks.

New time-traveling series stars Yang Mi

Actress Yang Mi in her currently filming series - Four Youths of Beijing

Yang Mi in her fourth series filming this year - Four Youths of Beijing. Palace makes five. Does this girl take a break?

Ever wonder why some series have ugly leads who can’t act?
Perhaps it’s because others like the Schemes of Beauties has every one of its countless roles filled with eye candy and acting ability. One reason for the near perfect cast is due to the fact its scriptwriter Yu Zheng handpicks all of his actors, as he will do for his latest palace intrigue series with Hunan TV – Palace: Heartlock Jade (宫.锁心玉).

The new time-traveling TV series will star Yang Mi as a young, cosmopolitan girl who daydreams of romance and history. Yet when her modern-day character travels back to the Qing Dynasty, she realizes that history is not the same as her fantasies. In the dangerous harem of the Forbidden Palace, she becomes a part of the struggle to become the emperor by the nine princes, and in a fight for love between the eighth prince (Feng Shaofeng) and the yet-to-be-casted fourth prince who came to be known as the Emperor Yongzheng.

Although most of casts have yet to be announced, because scriptwriter Yu Zheng is one of the few who chooses his own cast, it’s sure to be one full of acting abilities and eye candy. (more…)

Yan Kuan Gets a Boost in Exposure from Water Margin

December 19, 2009 | Posted in Mainland China,Television, Tagged ,

Pictures of actor Yan Kuan as Yan Qing in the upcoming Water Margin series were released, showing off the tattoos that the character sports. Yan Kuan has always been under the radar as an actor, but 2010 could be the year when that changes for him.

The New Water Margin and Journey to the West Series casted

This picture made me laugh. It's okay Yan Kuan. You don't need to bulk up for your role in Water Margin as long as you ditch the facial hair.

Warning: Lots of Fangirling ahead because I couldn’t manage to write this without spazzing.

China’s really hitting the four classics this year. Two Journey to the Wests, two Dream of the Red Chambers, Romance of the Three Kingdoms and now even Water Margin has been pushed into production. But China’s drama industry rose pretty quickly in technique and visuals, so in that regard remakes are almost looked to. And apart from the cheap version of Journey of the West, I love the casts quite a lot so I’m happy. Two pretty Jia Baoyus, a hot Zhu Geliang, a hot Tang Shen, and now a shuai, hot, shuai dai le Yan Qing. Do I sound shallow enough yet? I hope so. The amount of eye-candy’s too great for one girl to handle. Share my enthusiasm!

Fusion Band

After being inactive for half a year, Fusion will be back with a second album. When asked why the long absence, their company said that they’ve been concentrating on their next album which is reaching the end stages of its production. Now they’ll be starting performances again to warm up for their new release.

This is probably the best music news in this batch, the rest are just sad ones about company matters.

Pictures of Yan Kuan in "Mei Ren Xin Ji"

This post is for the Yan Kuan lovers out there who commented on my only other post on him, and surprised me that people know him and love him despite not knowing any Chinese and not having subs for anything of his.  Since then, I’ve been paying more attention to his upcoming projects, and sadly there hasn’t been anything worth noting, not even this, Mei Ren Xin Ji, because he’s only a guest star, as a favor to his Shanghai Theatre Academy colleague Yu Zheng, the producer and scriptwriter of the series. But at least there are lots of nice pics with the lead actresses Ruby Lin and Wang Likun from his blog.

Yan Kuan: Not Your Average Actor Turned Singer

November 21, 2008 | Posted in Mainland China,Music,Photoshoot,Television, Tagged

Edit: I added an MV to this post, so you can actually hear him singing one of his compositions, and acting too, since the MV features his character in the “Last Princess”.

So the previous lipsynching post was derived from an introduction from this post. I had stated I did not like actors turned singers, but this guy is one of the rarest exceptions in that category because his dream was to produce music since before he became an actor, and he’s paid quite a lot (literally) to make that happen. I’ve wanted to post on Yan Kuan since starting this site because he’s really, really under appreciated. At first his looks caught my eye (he’s like one of the best looking actors I’ve ever seen), and then it was his down-to-earth personality in interviews that I began to appreciate, as well as his acting. I was amazed when I learned he came out with an album he composed and wrote the lyrics for. So I saw this article, a great introduction to him and his career path, and idarklight was kind enough to translate it for me because I’m on “hiatus” of course.
