Yu Quan celebrates their 13th year together

December 22, 2011 | Posted in Mainland China,Music, Tagged

These two men have been together longer than Baidu has been in existence.

Just in time to commemorate their thirteenth year together , the soft rock duet “Yu Quan” will hold their “Moving Upwards in Life 向上人生路” concert in Beijing on Christmas Eve. A song specially composed for the occasion, also called “Moving Upwards in Life”, will be performed, as will many of Yu Quan’s greatest hits. In addition, Yu Quan will be presenting their own rendition of 2011′s popular “Old Boy” song. The entire concert will have a duration of around two hours and cover close to thirty songs.

Yu Quan is well received in China but not well known outside of China, so a little background information should be offered. Yu Quan was formed by Chen Yufan and Hu Haiquan in 1998, and their friendship is still going strong. As Chen Yufan puts it, ”Every part of Hai Quan belongs to Yu Quan, every part of me also belongs to Yu Quan. His feet will follow Yu Quan and all the friends who like Yu Quan, and we’ll walk until forever. Although he’s a bit of a flat feet, so if one day, he finishes, I’ll cary him until the end …” (Translation credit to idarklight)

Zhang Jie and Xie Na announces they’re dating on Baidu Search Awards

ZBC: wtf?

Xie Na and Zhang Jie hugs as Zhou Bichang looks on flabbergasted...if only she came

After about three years of rumors, two years of dueting together as couples, Zhang Jie and Xie Na finally announced their relationship officially on the Hunan TV – Baidu Search Awards. Read more of their love story here.

In the 80′s, I’ve always thought an idol must be very very handsome, like Jimmy Lin, but then I realized that an idol is an example that one can follow. I’m happy to have such an honor, and thank everyone. I think I’m very lucky, I’ve released a lot of music works; I have my family, my friends, my colleagues, and the support my friends gave me, and I have my self, who can take care of Nana. I want to tell everyone: “We’re together, very happily.” Thank you for your blessings, and happy new year everyone. Thanks.

Huayi Stars sing live wonderfully and terribly

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0du_L2CgE4]

It’s times like this when you learn to appreciate the difference between a good voice and an average one, and the value of hardwork. Laure Shang Wenjie’s voice definitely stood out as the one gifted with a beautiful voice. Even Cong Haonan, a decent singer normally (and from Sichuan Conservatory of Music, too), made me annoyed when him singing meant the end of Laure’s segment.

Then there’s the contrast between Huang Xiaoming and Li Bingbing. Neither were born singers, but from his other recent live and this, it’s obvious he’s been through major practicing. Li Bingbing obviously haven’t, but that’s forgivable since she’s not a singer.

This is proof that Cfensi is increasingly not the best place to keep up with alternatives to Cpop. I came to this sad sad realization when I discovered that these guys had released new albums, and I didn’t know about it even though they’re all mainstream.  Instead I entreat you to join More CMusic at livejournal to keep more up-to-date.

Ding Wei at the Wind and Cloud Newcomers Awards: "You can not just rely on a pretty face"

So part of the reason I chose to post on the Wind and Cloud Newcomers Awards and spend the time to stick a bunch of MVs there, and tell you exactly which ones have composed their own songs is because you can form your own opinions on their singing ability and their compositional skills while you read to this follow up post to it.

If you watched the Awards you may not have noticed the people presenting the awards. They were older and not as good looking as the massive amount of eye-candy reaping the awards. But these people were the foundation of Chinese music, putting their heart and souls into writing beautiful music, and they must have felt uneasy seeing one by one these newcomers with pretty faces and still questionable talent going up to get awards that meant the face of Chinese music was changing from skills-based to more looks/performance-based.

New Years All Across China and Taiwan

The fearless Jane Zhang

Thanks to Bluelily for making a new banner for January!

So this is a little late, but I tried to wait to see if I could find any videos of certain people I liked but that didn’t happen. Chinese people need to support Chinese artists and put up HQ videos. Seriously. I have little time on my hands so what I have here are mostly vids that others bothered to put up.

China is really way too big . There were too many choices this year. CCTV, the main national channel had its own New Years shindig targeted toward the elderly demographic. In addition to this Jiangsu, Hunan, Zhejiang, and Dragon TV were four of the bigger stations vying for the younger viewers. There were also lots of smaller stations. I feel sorry for Americans, who only have parades to watch for their big holidays.
