Weibo of the day: Hu Ge’s weibo interview with fans

November 23, 2011 | Posted in Mainland China,weibo, Tagged , , ,

More like “weibo’s” of the day.  Actor Hu Ge did a weibo interview today, where he responded to questions on relationships, acting, dreams and clothing options in his latest weibo interview. Some of the exchanges have been translated, with notes in italics by me.
Note that Yu Wentuo and Chen Jingchou are the main male characters in the upcoming drama Xuanyuan Sword: Scar of Heaven, which is produced by and stars Hu Ge as Yu Wentuo. Chen Jingchou, the main character in the original game, is played Hu Ge’s Shanghai Drama and Tangren shidi, newcomer Jiang Junfu.

Q: Like Yu Wentuo, Hu Ge is also a multifaceted person. If you met your other half, which side of you will show her? …..
A: I’ll use my side look to attract her, use my front side to hug her, and use my back side to protect her.

Q: Do you have any pressure due to how similar Lin Gengxin is to you?
A: I don’t have any pressure. The one with pressure should be my dad. Hahaha

Q: Since coming into the acting circle, have you met any roadblocks? Someone that looks like you should be the focal point everywhere, right?
A: How I look is like my business card, what I become is the real me.

Weibo of the day: Yuan Hong’s cellphone allusions

November 16, 2011 | Posted in weibo, Tagged

I think I’m going to start translating random weibo’s for fun since they’re short and show off celebrities personalities well. Submit your own if you want it translated.

This cellphone has never allowed me to rest. Changing screens, changing the charger, carrying two extra batteries and a battery charger with me everywhere, plugging it in wherever I am, making it as seem as if I’m so easy. For her, I often turn down the brightness of my world. This morning, when I woke up, she gave me a dead face again, and won’t light up at all. Even worse is, when I took her to the cellphone fixer place, she was immediately fine after someone else opened her outer coverings and toyed with her a bit  …

Zheng Shuang plays the boyish and ambitious Princess Taiping

When Meteor Shower’s comedic Zhu Zixiao pairs up with the cute Zheng Shuang, while her true love Zhang Han becomes her nephew;   When her mother is played by a girl only three years older, and one of her enemies is played by the star of the first 3D porn film;  Welcome to the crazy but amazing world of the currently-filming Secret History of Princess Taiping series. I’m just really confused by the casting, despite loving most of the actors/actresses, what do you think? (more…)

Tang Yan stars in two business intrigue series

Unbeatable II starring Hu Ge, Tang Yan, etc.

Even high-end business intrigue cannot stand against Tang Yan's natural cuteness

After her fame in Chinese Paladin 3 and My Daughter, Tang Yan continues to rule the screen as one of the most popular new actresses.  Upcoming this fall will be two dramas starring her in a business setting. First up is Unbeatable II, where she plays the last hold of innocence and love in a world of business intrigue.  She will be opposite familiar costars Hu Ge and Roy Qiu.    In Ad Mania 广告风云, Tang Yan moves away from her recent happy-go-lucky image to become a fierce businesswomen. Timetraveling drama Bu Bu Jing Xin releases first trailer

leads

Modern-dressed Liu Shishi doesn't seem so out of place next to the two Qing princes, but will her modern character Ruoxi be able to do the same?

is week. Starring Liu Shishi as a modern girl, the drama, based on the popular book of the same name, carries the main character into the reign of the Kangxi Emperor and follows her interactions with the various princes. Despite their unfortunate bald heads, the drama features a handsome row of actors, including Nicky Wu (4th Prince), Kevin Cheng (8th), Han Dong (9th), Ye Zuxin (10th, and Tangren’s own Yuan Hong (13th) and Lin Gengxi(14th).

Bu Bu Jing Xin steps into a new era of internet novel – based series

Liu Shishi plays a modern girl who accidentally travels back to the Qing dynasty and finds herself caught in a web of love and power struggles.

Ever get bored with the lists of upcoming dramas that end with the words “remake?” Ever wonder why is it that so many recent Chinese dramas have been remakes or re-adaptations?

Until recently, Chinese popular literature was rare. Whereas Japan (and other East Asian nations) could draw back on its mangas as a source for stories, China only found such a source for more light-hearted TV series with its recent boom in pop lit. Luckily, with the advent of the Internet and the recent explosion of internet novels that followed, more and more series are finding their inspiration through those new writings.

Most recently, two popular such adaptations include Du Lala’s Promotions and Summer of Bubbles. And while some adaptations will fail in this stage of trial and error, you can definitely expect to see more dramas based on internet novels. One particularly popular genre has been time-traveling series. It comes no surprise, then, when Bu Bu Xin Jing, one of the first and most popular of the genre, was announced to be made into a series. While this unfortunately is set in the Qing dynasty of shaved heads, more adaptations are certainly to come. Scriptwriter Yu Zheng has already announced the adaptation of Song in the Cloud (云中歌), another novel by the same author that follows the tale of wolf-girl Cloud Song (云歌) as she leaves her home in the deserts to seek her childhood love in the Han capital of Chang’an (Xi’an). I’m beyond excited for that particular adaptation, for not only the way more beautiful clothing, but also the semi-magical realm it creates.

In Bu Bu Jing Xin, Liu Shishi plays a modern girl  who one day woke up as Maertai Ruoxi, the daughter of a high Qing official in the reign of Kangxi. Caught between her love for the doomed 8th prince (Kevin Cheng) and the seemingly cold 4th prince (Nicky Wu), she faces the questions of following her heart or following history. Can she change history with love?  Or should she give up love to stay alive?
