Daniel Wu and Xu Jinglei: What are they up to now?

U2190P28T3D2583964F358DT20090626171943

Xu Jinglei and Daniel Wu, who have worked together before in the movie Shinjuku Incident teamed up for a magazine (unnamed) shoot.  I was going to put this in the News Roundup, but since both have so much going on professionally, it was a nice chance to talk about their upcoming projects. Sorry for such a lame post title.

Daniel Wu sums up Xu Jinglei: “She’s like a detective story…the more you get to know her, the more interesting she becomes”. Which could be true and not just random flattery. She seems sort of bland in interviews to me, but her work is so interesting. She’s gotten great leading roles as an actress, directed award-winning movies, had the #1 most read blog in the world, and started an e-Magazine for working women. So what is she doing next that combines her lauded talents and her girl power attitude? You’ll never guess…

Music Radio China Top Chart Awards

April 26, 2009 | Posted in Events,Hong Kong,Mainland China,Music,Taiwan, Tagged ,

Music Awards in China are plentiful, but this one was awesome because most popular mainland group winner BOBO opens it with a medley of the top songs of 2008 and it’s a nice trip down memory lane. I think I started tearing up when I heard them sing Beijing Welcomes You. Probably only because that was the end of the song, and I couldn’t hear their voices anymore. Help me figure out which song is which and leave a comment stating the time they sing it and the song.

BOBO’s medley for mainland artists (all songs named)

Edit: Zhang Jie’s medley for Taiwan/HK/SG/Malaysia etc artists (help me figure out these songs!)

New Year Galas Wrap-up

jaysongjaylittle

CCTV’s Spring Festival Gala has become one of the symbols of the Lunar New Year in China and one of the most extravagant shows that CCTV puts on every year. Jay Chou’s performance was probably the most anticipated event of the night. It consisted of three generations of singers – folk singer Song Zuying, Jay and 9-year-old genius Hou Gaojunjie- singing a blend of Song Zuying’s “Spicy Girls” and Jay’s “Herbalist Manual.” Apparently, singing with Song Zuying has been a dream of Jay.

Update: Jay also said that he has already invited Song Zuying to sing in a duet with him. He says he wants to compose a duet just for her.

When life gives you mangoes, make news

Updates on the New Meteor Garden, Zhang Jie and Jackie Chan, Chen Chusheng, Guo Jingming and other EE Media/Hunan TV aka Mango TV related news.

Hungry, anyone?

Hunan TV's logo

Everything about the New Meteor Garden is still undecided, so here are the latest “news” flying around. The announcing of the casting of F4 has been moved back again, but the female lead has been chosen. She’s a nineteen-year-old from the Beijing Film Institute. The story will be significantly changed, with different names and backgrounds of each of the characters. For example, Rui might play the piano instead of the violin. Being forever Chinese, the drama will also be less violent and more inspirational. Domyouji has pretty much been confirmed as not from the Super Boys. But of course, as CFensi should’ve pounded into you by now, you can’t always trust what you read.

New Years All Across China and Taiwan

u996p28t3d2324219f326dt20090101044731

The fearless Jane Zhang

Thanks to Bluelily for making a new banner for January!

So this is a little late, but I tried to wait to see if I could find any videos of certain people I liked but that didn’t happen. Chinese people need to support Chinese artists and put up HQ videos. Seriously. I have little time on my hands so what I have here are mostly vids that others bothered to put up.

China is really way too big . There were too many choices this year. CCTV, the main national channel had its own New Years shindig targeted toward the elderly demographic. In addition to this Jiangsu, Hunan, Zhejiang, and Dragon TV were four of the bigger stations vying for the younger viewers. There were also lots of smaller stations. I feel sorry for Americans, who only have parades to watch for their big holidays.

Falling in love with the most beautiful sun

If you notice him, you’ll definitely be moved by his voice, you’ll fall in love with him.

- Xie Na

The most beautiful sun – Zhang Jie
[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EeMkY1x08I4]

From the “servant girl in every movie” to one of the most popular hosts in China, Xie Na’s new book recounts her years of struggle in Beijing. In it, she also tells the story of Zhang Jie, the most controversial Super Boy of 2007, and one with a voice that touched her heart:

The first time Zhang Jie held a concert, I was scared, but as soon as I entered, I felt overwhelmed. The seats were filled, even the aisles were crowed; everything around me was blue. After watching the concert, I was again surprised. When the whole stadium sang “The most beautiful sun” together with him, my eyes were wet.I think he has a musician’s spirit: he loves music and he loves singing more than anything else. You can stop him from doing anything, but you can never stop him from singing.

Pictures from the set of Le Huo Nan Hai

Someone wanted know more about Le Huo Nan Hai, so this is a post for you. This is the last picspam I am doing for Le Huo Nan Hai, aka the Superboys Musical because I think it’s finished wrapping up its shoot, and probably all that’s left is editing and then come summer time 2009 China will have her first musical since the underwhelming Perhaps Love. Actually, probably more pictures will come out when they start doing publicity for this, so I’ll post on it then, but that won’t be for a while. I don’t even know if I’ll be running this site then.

Top Combine interviewed Jam Hsiao but could not interview SJ-M

u1817p28t3d2256395f326dt20081118220328

TC: The number of questions we ask you depends on if you pose with our CD Jam Hsiao: Fine by me!

Update: Top Combine will be guest stars on the third episode of Ugly Wudi. I have no idea why they hired Doremi to do their promotional activities, when it’s obvious that Hunan TV is backing them and isn’t going to stop promoting them until they are sucessful. Hit-5 or Seventeen should have been the ones to hire Doremi.

Recently mainland China’s new boyband, Top Combine, was invited to be guests performers at the Southeast Music Awards Ceremony and became Hunan Tv’s special interviewers, interviewing many stars backstage who came to receive an award.

The interviewed Jam Hsiao, actor William, and their good friends Zhang Jie, and Li Yifeng. But they could not interview SJ-M because of difficulties (unstated). After repeatedly asking, they could only give up this opportunity for direct dialogue with SJ-M.

Source. Watch the clip of them interviewing people here (starts at about 6 min in). They’re not very good at it, lol. Oh, and a real, SINA interview with Jam Hsiao here…his interviews are better watched than read though.

Yes, I know…that hiatus barely lasted a day, but uh, this article was very short, yet interesting. Anyway, don’t half of you guys come for Top Combine news? So back to hiatus. Actually expect a couple of more posts since someone else did a translation for me. Then I’m definitely back on hiatus.
