Liu Shishi in Strange Heroes Yi Zhi Mei

Known for its gorgeous casts and youthful plots in  historical dramas like Chinese Paladin, Fairy in Wonderland and the Young Warriors of the Yang Clan,  Shanghai Tangren Company recently announced its three new series in production this year in an interview with CEO Karen Tsoi.

They include in pre-production stage series about genius strategist Zhuge Liang starring Hu Ge, currently filming series about “Asian Robin Hood” Yi Zhi Mei starring Wallace Huo, Liu Shishi and Ma Tianyu, and post-production series about textile master Huang Dao Po starring Zhang Junning (the actress, not the HSM actor), Liu Shishi and Yuan Hong.

Disney, Hua Yi and SMG Start Production on a Chinese "High School Musical"

November 22, 2009 | Posted in Mainland China,Movies, Tagged ,

Zhang Junning (L) and a supporting actor who I don't think is one of the six leads. (R) on the set of Chinese High School Musical

It’s not a joke. Disney has long been desperate to tap into China’s market, even going so far as to co-produce with China films like The Magic Gourd and The Forbidden Kingdom. Furthermore, Disney’s Chinese connections seem to be based in Shanghai, where a new themepark finally got the ok after years of Disney pushing for it. So perhaps it is not surprising that HSM, already popular in China, will be remade with funding from Shanghai-based megacorporations Hua Yi and SMG. The  early reports said BOBO would be in this, and somehow, strangely, it changed to Zhang Junning who’s not even a actor under Hua Yi.

Men's Uno's Sexy Couple: Zhang Yuqi and Zhang Junning

Men’s Uno’s second couple photoshoot. These two could be considered two of the hottest rising actors in China, and with two of the most perfect set of looks. Kitty Zhang Yuqi, discovered by Stephen Chow for CJ7 while Zhang Junning, was discovered by drama scriptwiter/director Hai Yan. Both men have midas touches when it comes to make an actress and actor respectively, famous. Together the two are paired in the desert heat to interpret a passionate love, and continue that interpretation in the Versace hotel in Australia.

Cross-Profession Artists' Burberry Photoshoot for Men's Uno and HotSpot

8cac19ce737f181ab700c872

From L-R linda, Peng Tan, Song Ning, Chun Xiao, and Zhang Junning

I have no idea if the title made sense to anyone? Basically Men’s Uno grabbed five artists that dabble in different areas of the entertainment field (singing, acting, modeling) and put them in Burberry clothing. The shoot caught my attention because it had both Peng Tan and Zhang Junning who are just so different from each other. The other guy is Song Ning who started out as a model and now falls into that category of late twenties  to early thirties actors who only have slight fame in China. He’s been in a few series and a few MVs, including one of Ding Wei’s back when she still sang (she composed this song as well…don’t you just love her?).

A Korean company (Lee Kim? ) has purchased the rights to remake the Hai Yan series, Five Star Hotel and hopes to be able to have it broadcast it in 2010.  The company also  hopes that Won Bin will star, as the character Pan Yulong originally played by Zhang Junning.

Photoshoots of Various Chinese Actors #2

December 8, 2008 | Posted in Mainland China,Photoshoot, Tagged , , , ,

Since I was just commenting about Deng Chao, I thought I would post these. It annoys me how people think it’s not good-looking enough to play the lead in HSDS, because if I am to sit and watch a series I’d rather watch someone who is decent looking but can act rather than stare at a blank pretty face. Besides, he’s not that unattractive. If you want your pretty fix however, check out the pictures of BoBo, Zhang Junning, and Lu Yi below. I guess BoBo can be called actors now since they’re both filming dramas.

Edit: All the thumbnails have been fixed. Sorry about earlier.

Edit: Added Wu Jianfei.

Fit Lover a Hit at the Chinese Box Office

20081031953451

Karena Lam: How could I still have been outshined despite having 12x as much screentime as everyone else? It's back to being under appreciated.

This movie (also known as Call for Love 2) raked in more than its predecessor, Call for Love and signaled the first week of the wave of holiday-friendly movies. There were no actual numbers but according to reports, theaters were 80% full, and some were even sold-out. Also according to reporters, it seemed to be doing better than Desires of the Heart. I really wish there were actual numbers because it’d be interesting to see how these two romanace comedies stacked up against the other two new releases, guy-friendly Beast Stalker/Witness and The Underdog Knight. I predict the action flicks win because there are more men in China. :P

Inside sources say that a script for Call for Love 3 is already in the works.

Also, guess which character audiences liked the most in Fit Lover, according to Sina? I’ll give you a hint…it wasn’t Karena…so which one of the twelve guys?

Stage of Youth Preview + NGs + Wrap Up Celebration Pics

It’s basically like half mainland stars and half EEG people. What…is the point of Kenny Kwan? His acting looks so exaggerated, and while I don’t really seem to mind Joey Yung and Yumiko Cheng’s accents when they speak in mandarin, his bothers the heck out of me. That + the exaggerated acting is very, very painful to watch.

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6xmtYKpcQN0]

I have a feeling I’ll be disappointed with Zhang Junning’s part…he just looks pensive in this, and it doesn’t seem like his role is very big. And he seems to be paired with Yumiko. Ugh. I’m going to fast forward to those parts anyway.

/useless commentary about a show that I’ve posted too much on.

Edit: Whoops. I put up the wrong video before.

Edit 2: Wrap up celebration for the series took place at Han Geng’s mom’s new restaurant. Junning looks cute peering over Han Geng’s shoulder in the background. More pics.

Han Geng and Zhang Junning Filming Dance Scenes Together

November 14, 2008 | Posted in Mainland China,Television, Tagged , , ,

I’ve been waiting forever to find pictures of these two dancing together and this is it I guess. I must be the only one who is going to watch this not because of Han Geng but because of Zhang Junning, even though I like Han Geng too. Zhang Juning shot to fame last year when he landed a coveted role in  Five Star Hotel, a Hai Yan drama series. He’s also pretty passionate about dancing, although he never had too much formal training. Zhang Junning seems to be trying to be a triple-threat, with acting, dancing, and sometime soon singing, which was expected since he was a music major at university. Let’s hope he lives to that potential because he’s tremendous eye-candy. More pictures below.
