Top Combine Performs First Hit “Cotton Candy” in Different Dialects

Top Combine, which celebrated its third birthday on the 25th, recently went on variety show Zhong Guo Ai Da Ge Hui. The show was filmed in Chengdu, member Ma Xueyang‘s hometown. He greeted the audience in Sichuanese and later got a chance to show off more of his hometown’s regional dialect as the hosts challenged Top Combine to sing their hit song “Cotton Candy” in their own dialects (or in Jin Ensheng‘s case, Korean).

Watch Zhang Yuan and Li Mao sing (sort of) in the Anhui dialect, Liu Zhoucheng give a stunning performance in Cantonese and Mandarin, Jin Ensheng switch between Korean and Chinese, and Ma Xueyang forget the lyrics he penned himself:

The entire episode, which was split into two weeks, can be seen at YouTube, thanks to puiizTC. Check the forum’s Top Combine thread for links. Some of the fun includes host and Super Boy Wu Yi singing snippets of Top Combine’s songs, Top Combine sharing what the most important quality of being an artiste or entertainer is (Xiao Wu’s answer is priceless), as well as an appearance from Ma Xueyang’s first violin teacher (she started teaching him when he was four!).

Top Combine's Zhang Yuan and singer Huang Ying sings a duet of unending love.

Top Combine’s leader Zhang Yuan and songstress Huang Ying meets in a tale of tragic love in their first TV series performance. The two reenacts scenes between the general He Jinzhai and his wife, the singer Dai Guiying, in the red romance series “Youth Accompaniment – Red.Beauty.”
On the screen, the couple sings varies songs arranged by Zhang Yuan’s onscreen persona. Off screen, the two has fun dancing to Top Combine’s Lucky Boys.
Despite never having acted before, Zhang Yuan gives a convincing performance as the youthful general. I was impressed, are you?
Other stars performing in various episodes of the documentary include Jiang Yingrong, Li Xiaoyun, Tan Lina, Li Wei, etc.

iMe in this month's Easy Magazine

New multinational girlgroup iMe‘s MV for “The Limit of Friendship”, the third single from their debut EP was recently released showing off the gorgeous beaches of Thailand. Also in the MV is their Shi Ge, Top Combine‘s Zhang Yuan, whose beautiful voice is featured in the song. The girls have had a full schedule flying back between various countries in the past few months. In China, they did photoshoots for Sohu website and Easy magazine, and went on shows including one with HIT-5. In Thailand, which they’ve visited twice now, not only did they film their MV, but they performed at True Fantasia, and went on a succession of shows. They will also be releasing a song in Thai.

Top Combine's 1st Album "Qi Tian Da Sheng"

I’m putting this up here because it’s an AMAZING album with contribution from all the five members which is so rare for a boyband’s first album. If they keep up the improvement since their first EP these kids will be amazing. Top Combine’s Ma Xueyang composed and wrote  four tracks, and the other four members each wrote lyrics for a song. You can tell they put a lot of effort into this, and there’s a good variety of songs, from ballads to fast tracks.

Please support them if you like the album and buy it!

Tracks starting with track three (because most people have heard the first two tracks). I’d listen to all the songs though because they’re all good.

Track 3 Guang Mang – Composed by Ma Xueyang about the friendship of the five members

Da Da's Dance goes to Sundance

Director Zhang Yuan, pioneer of China’s sixth generation of filmmakers, will be going to Sundance with his latest film, Da Da’s Dance. His was one of the 200 films selected from over 9,000 to participate in the competition that recognizes American indie films and films from abroad. It will be competing with 15 others in the category World Cinema Dramatic Competition. This film about a young girl’s journey after leaving home for various reasons, was billed as one of Zhang Yuan’s first uncut films in China, and hopefully it signals a loosening up on SARFT’s part, which also allowed in an unprecedented uncut version of Quantum Solace a few weeks ago despite its violence, and let in Wanted even earlier this year, which is like the anti-thesis of what China deems a moralistic film. Of course, Da Da’s Dance is billed as one of the tamer films from Zhang…but still, I’m starting to get a little hope. It seems like a lot of people SARFT didn’t like, like Wang Xiaoshuai are now favored by them. We’ll see.
