Introduction
Cfensi can only run with a dedicated set of good writers, translators, and editors to keep up with the rapidly developing realm of Chinese entertainment. This is where the serious news is separated from discussion and gossip, and where the staffers come in. If you think you're up for the job and joining the writing team, please look at the second post of this thread.

Current writers/translators and their areas of focus:

Anyone else who's already been established to be a member of the writing staff, please post here with your area of focus. It doesn't have to be exclusive, either; you can pick more than one.

Recruiting
Cfensi is currently looking for new writers and translators for articles! Details of the jobs are as follows:

Writers - Writes the actual articles. Must be at least somewhat familiar with the industry of entertainment covered and put be able articles into perspective. If an article describes an artist or show that hasn't already been introduced, the writer must be able to give necessary background information to put the article in context.

There are two main types of articles:
1) News articles - written specifically from news, with expansions as necessary.
2) Editorial articles - written about overarching subjects, such as industry trends, opinions, etc.

Translators - Finds and translates articles from Chinese news sources. Must either be fluent in written Chinese, or be very diligent in using translation tools.

Apply in this thread. Please have either a written article or article translation ready.

I can be both a translator and a poster. My chinese isn't THAT great, but I think I know enough. Plus, it'll be a good way for me to learn some more. I'll probably do articles on mainstream music and maybe a few dramas here and there (If I have time.).

BTW- What would you define gossip as? Is it the same as rumors?

Provisionally, I think gossip should just be defined as both unsubstantiated rumors and people going about their daily lives (spotting so and so at a restaurant, etc).

Yes - writers are only responsible for taking what someone else has translated, and editing it to make it more readable since Chinese direct translation to English isn't the easiest to read sometimes.

However, writers can also translate posts for themselves if you feel comfortable enough with the Chinese in an article to get the main points of it.

Here's a quick little article with a bit of an opinion I wrote just then.

Jeon Ji Hyun (South Korean actress best known for her role in “My Sassy Girl”) is to team up with superstar Zhang Ziyi in an upcoming English language film “Snow Flower and the Secret Fan” based on the novel by Chinese American Lisa See. The story is set in Southern Hunan in the nineteenth century and is rumoured that the male lead will be played by one of the Taiwanese F4. It will be directed by Chinese American Wayne Wang (best known for directing “Maid in Manhattan”).

The film will be a joint production by Zhang Ziyi and Wendy Murdoch conveying a moving story about two lifelong friends depicted by Zhang Ziyi and Jeon Ji Hyun as they communicate with each other by letters written in a special “woman’s code”.

As Jeon Ji Hyun is an established Korean pop idol with a firm fanbase, what sort of reactions could we expect? The film will be a combined Chinese and American production and will also feature a Korean idol as one of the protagonists. This is the first time a large English language production will have three big stars, one of whom is Korean. Judging by the fact that many fans of Jeon Ji Hyun would fall under the category of “defensive k-pop fans/netizens that have lately been less than fond of activities in China’s pop world”, it is reasonable to say that there will definitely be some mixed reactions. It is rare for a primarily Chinese project to take in a Korean actress; we usually see the Korean entertainment companies recruiting young Chinese talents. However it does seem likely that the news will mainly attract positive opinions or otherwise fairly neutral views seeing as it will be a successful project with no bias or anything of the sort.

The film seems like it will be successful without a doubt though; dedicated fans of Zhang Ziyi, Jeon Ji Hyun or the F4 member will see the film (which I assume will be shown in many theatres in the US, Canada and other western countries), enjoy it and it will become a hit.

Two days ago, S.H.E was performing on Hunan TV’s Spring Festival Show. However very smart netizens found out that there performance was exactly the same as that of Japanese group “Perfume’s” performance on “Music Station”.

Netizens laugh at Hunan TV’s host for applauding S.H.E’s performance, never would have thought that their performance would be someone else’s. S.H.E’s dancing was very much identical to “Perfume” and on top of that, the stage effects really has copied too much!

About the stage effects, according to S.H.E’s record company, HIM, they said that S.H.E was only invited by Hunan TV to attend the show to sing [SuperStar and Ke Ai Wan Sui] these two songs. S.H.E only wanted to sing the songs well and bring joy to everyone

This is one of the translations I've done about S.H.E about 2 days ago. I can translate from Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese if that helps....
btw, do you do Taiwan news?

Thanks! We still do need translators/writers. Particularly important is that they can find news themselves. Taiwan news is fine, we've done Taiwan news before, but it's probably better not to have the first post on a particular artist be a negative one.

Nope, rule of thumb should be try to post on news that would be interesting to anyone, even if they had never heard of the artists. Or of course post on what news interests you.

I've been reading the blog for awhile but i never posted many comments
I would love to get more involved.

almost fluent in simplified chinese, and when i need to, im pro at using online translators.
translator or writer, they're both fine with me.
i usually have time, and if not, i dnt mind not sleeping, the adrenaline rush is addicting

Im a little confused, do people send me articles to translate or do i find articles myself, translate them, then send it to you?
either way is fine with me.
